Help opening my DS4.0 saved .daz files in Ds 4.6

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

Hello Im a long time DS User & decided today it was high time I moved up to Ds 4.6
I used an updated DIM to install from DS PRo 4.0 to 4.6

4.6.53

Now none of my .daz scene Files saved in 4.0 using Genesis will open.
they try to...... & crash the app at the end of the load bar

I can see that DS 4.6 seems improved
do things need to be converted ? what gives?
I have a ton of custom scenes saved using genesis in 4.0

Can I go Back ? ( Saved everything in a back up)
OR Could I possibly Run 4.0 Alongside
4.6 to open them ?
im on Mac 64 bit 10.6.8

I would say Im Very familiar with DS & this Software & directory & asset structure
If anyone out there in Dazzy land has any ideas about your help would be appreciated thanks :-)

I did not see this in 10.6.8 but I went from DS 3 to DS4.5, no conversion necessary, just data files.

If it's crashing at the very end does it give you a bug report you can copy/paste here?

If you content is in the Users/Shared folder you can try to create a new account with admin rights, boot into that account and try to load one of the files that was crashing

another issue is you could have a corrupt DS download and you might want to re-download, or it could be a corrupt .plist for Daz, I think there are 3 in the library/preferences you could try and remove but I've forgotten if it's Macintosh HD:Library:Preferences or Macintosh User:Username:Library:Preferences in 10.6.x

If you have not done so already repair permissions on your internal HD.
    Macintosh HD:Applications:Utilities:Drive Tools
select the disk, hit repair, make sandwich, reboot.

another tool you might want to check out is Onyx, it's free and it's something you should use once in a blue moon to keep your rig happy it will repair permissions and do some under the hood unix cleanups you might not know about or might be tricky without a GUI.

Thanks Ill Try a couple of these solutions .
!!!!!!!appreciate the Time taken to reply :-) !!!!!!!
Imthinking its just something strange to my machine.
I managed to get my backup 4.0 copy open
& save parts of scenes out as Dsf presets which pop right in to 4.6....
so tradegedy averted (mostly hehe! )
But Im super curious to find out what i did or am doing that caused this.
4.6 seems improved so Im thinking it will be worth it to figure this out.

damaged or corrupt files can stop a piece of software in it's tracks and it's not uncommon for these to get wonky from nothing more than normal use on your part.
The ONYX software is an invaluable tool for you to keep on hand for when your computer is gone plum loco. Anyone who owns a mac should download it and keep it close by. Like I said, it's rare you need to use it but when you do it can work like a priest trying to get a little girls head from spinning.
