Question to geoshells

Is it possible to somehow use Geoshells for Genesis 2 on Genesis 3 or Genesis 8?

A geoshell is an instance of the model it is created from.

If the product you want to use is a Genesis 2 one, and has a material, eg make-up, wounds, tattoos etc, they will probably not work that well as they will be based on Genesis 2 UVs. A geoshell has the same UV options as its parent model, so although you can create a geo shell on Genesis 3, and apply the Genesis 2 geo shell materials, the lack of compatible UVs is likely to cause an issue.

So the real question is, is there a UV for Genesis 8 or 3* that allows you to use Genesis 2 textures?

*I think Genesis 8 uses the same UV as Genesis 3

    What's this: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-genesis-2-male-and-michael-6

You can change the UV of the shell.  It inherits the UV of parent, but can be changed under surfaces.

Not exactly. There are the "legacy UVs" products by Cayman Studios (some of the G3 ones are at Rendo, not here), but they're not simply alternate UVs, they include geografts too.

G2 and G3 don't have the same UVs but also don't have the same material zones and don't use the same number of texture maps. The problem is that if you provide only alternate UVs, you end up with some G3 material zones where you would need to use 2 different G2 maps to cover the zone, which obviously won't work. So you also need to split those zones in 2. But there comes the 2nd problem: G3 doesn't include vertices in the right place to define the needed material zone boundary.

The legacy UVs products include geografts which add the vertices needed, scripts to set the material zones as required, and alternate UVs for the other parts of G3.

There are similar products for G8.

I suppose that if you use those you can then add a geoshell to your G3 or G8 and apply a G2 shell texture to it, but you'd need to use a G2 texture on the figure too.

Another option is to convert the textures made for the geoshell themselves; there's a product called Texture Transformer at Rendo which allows you to convert G2 textures into G3 textures (you need the base product and add-ons for that), so the converted version could be used on a geoshell for G3 or G8.

Yes but it will have the same options available as the parent figure.
