Need the Info Concerning PostgreSQL CMS Installation

I am currently trying to help a friend that is a New User of DAZ Studio. She has only recently downloaded DAZ Studio, and her Content is not showing in any of the Content Library directories, nor the Smart Content. It was here in the DAZ Studio Discussion threads that I was able to find the info that helped me with the problems I was having, and as she is experiencing many of the same issues and more, I feel that the info will help her as well.

I have advised her to download the latest build of DAZ Studio using the DIM, and to download the Starter Essentials bundles the same way. I can help her already with getting her install path set in the DIM, and with telling DAZ Studio how to find the Content files via that path. Her current version of DAZ Studio is 4.5. She has not upgraded since that one. She tries loading Genesis into the work space window and gets that Missing file message telling her the data file is missing. I know this is because the files did not install properly, with the data file being installed to a location DAZ Studio cannot find in relation to the figure or other assets from the bundle. It is likely that when she begins using the Genesis 2 Starter Essentials, she will get a similar result.. She says that it loads a Block Robot Figure. I recognize this problem, and know it to be due to dislocated data files.

As a new user she will be a particularly hard one to help, because she is already displaying signs of not understanding some instructions. So to help her I want to get the best info possible to ensure that she is successful with each stage of getting things up and working properly. The best6 place I can think of is the good folks here at the DAZ 3D Forums; in particular the DAZ Studio Discussion Threads. I know there is a thread or two here that are created for this topic. So if anyone can help me to find these threads, I will be quite appreciative.

Stay Awesome!

If she used the default locations in the DAZ Install Manager then she needs to add the My DAZ 3D Library folder from her Public Documents folder as a content directory - the simplest way to do that is to go to the Content Library pane, right click on DAZ Studio Formats, and select Add Base Directory, then browse to and select the folder; then right-click on Poser Formats, select Add Runtime Directory and again browse to and select the My DAZ 3D Library folder. DS 4.5 is before DIM, so it doesn't know to add the new content folder - newer versions of DS, installed on new systems, will add the folder automatically.

I and a few others have already told her to do that.

We have also advised her to upgrade to the latest build of DAZ Studio. The reason is because her content continues to disappear from her Content Library. For that reason, I have advised her to switch from the Valentina CMS to the PostgreSQL CMS as soon as I can get the best info on how to do that. Like me, she can get confused by too many people trying to tell her what to do, so the document that outlines the process would be the best way to go for that. I would also like to find the documents that show how to tell the DIM where to install to, and how to add the new directories to DAZ Studio's Content Database. Words are good for folks like me, but pictures work much better for new users.

The problem I am having is finding it again, because after doing that myself, I saw no need to save a link to it. Mine was a special case in which I switched fully to the new one, and completely uninstalled the old one, as I do not use Carrara. Now it seems that her case is very much like mine, because she wants to do the same thing. I could make a quick tutorial concerning it, but I might leave something important out that would throw her way off as she tries to figure out what is missing. I wish to provide her with good info that will keep her from going through what I did.

I know that three years ago, with the lack of a good guide, I was looking for any good tutorials for DAZ Studio that could help me learn about how the program works. Missing info was inherent in most of the 3rd party tutorials because they were made either by people that were long time users assuming I had knowledge I did not have, or by people that were learning by exploring the subjects of their tutorials as they were making them. Not good in either case, I'm sure you will agree. It was a source of constant frustration for me for nearly two years. Believe me, I searched for a good guide right here at DAZ 3D, and found one that had been started but never completed, and had not been updated for several years! I know that was due to new builds being released, but that did not help me. Even the new guide that is now available is not complete, having missing info like the old one. It is being call a WIP, but since the new formats have been introduced, and the DIM and new CMS released, I have seen no new info added to that one. Still it is more complete than the old one, and can be better understood by new users.

Concerning the PostgreSQL CMS; are there any plans for future builds of DAZ Studio to come with it already installed instead of the old Valentina CMS? I ask because it is a definite improvement over the old one, having better speed, able to be shut down when DAZ Studio or the DIM are not in use, etc. I mean I have noticed a great improvement over the way my Content Library and my Smart Content work using the PostgreSQL CMS.
