Own made 'ghost' light visibility is intermittent

Ever since I discovered that I can make my own ghost lights I'v been using them to complement my HDRI's.
They work well and render fast. Mostly...

But now something really strange happened.
I have this ghost light that sometimes is invisible (cutout opacity always set to 0,0001, right?) and sometimes it's not.
Sometimes it's almost invisible but not quite. You can see something in there and it, obviously, ruins everything.

Anyone ever come across something like this before??

My Daz version is 4.12.1.118 Pro is that the problem?

indecision

Try adding a few more 0s. As long as it is greater than 0 it will still emit light. Try 0.000000001 and see if you are still seeing the ghost effect.

I know, I tried. After a number of zero's I think it just reverts to 0 and the prop stops emitting light.
    But I'll investigate further. Thanks!

150 lumis isn't very high.  How is it with higher luminence?

Tried a whole range of settings between 80kcd to 1500kcd. No change.
But the really odd thing is that sometimes it works. It does get invisible.

Must be some really weird setting in Daz.

  • Instead of setting the cutout opacity to .00001 or whatever, use a cutout-opacity map. Make a new image - all solid black (low resolution is fine) and add it to the cutout opacity channel as a map. This will make the light-source invisible but leave the light itself

    Nice hint... works nicely yes

I've had this problem if I've used a haze or atmosphere.

Yes, thank you. I already tried it. It didn't work.
It did change the way the light interacted but it didn't make it invisible.

Not using any of that either.

And the plot kind of thickens...
It turns out there are angles that do render it invisible. Which makes absolutely no sense at all to me.
Tried every setting I could think of and the amount of time I've lost in the last 48 hours with this is ridiculous.
Honestly this is about the most frustrating thing I ever came across in Daz.

I think I'm just going to file this under a very specific 'bug' but should I report this?
Is it even the kind of thing that they can look at as a support ticket?

ps: Hey, Kindred Arts know something about this? Anything? Please?
ps2: I do have the latest Nvidia drivers (456.71 Studio) and my gpu's are 2x RTX2080ti (could that be it? An RTX thing?)

Did you set glossy weight and reflectivity to zero?

    Yes, I did.
I'm thinking it must be a combination of factors.
I'll just use a spotlight. I don't like them as much but at this point I got to continue working.

Thank you all and if anyone comes across another weird thing with 'ghost' lights please post it here.
This might actually be a real issue for some people.
