It has pretty low SKU, but the products say in the bundle:
- Daz Studio Iray Material Presets (.DUF)
Could someone confirm this? Does this work with Iray?
Comments
Many of the promo images have the Iray logo on them and all the products in the bundle list that they have Iray Material Presets. They also all list "Iray Emission" under the Materials Options. I'm not sure what more proof you need.
The product is old, but Jepe updated it when Iray came out to keep it relevant and play with the emissives. It was a very nice gesture.
Thx for the confirmation.
I was curious about this package too. I noticed that each of the effects has a series of morphs, so is there a way to use them as animated sequence inside of DS or does a sequence need to be applied in post work?
The effects are all billboards, so the morphs are limited to bending and twisting a flat surface. Many of the effects look like a series of frames that could be used for simple animations by changing the visibility in sequence.
I guess the sequences could be applied to a surface with some kind of animated texture script so it could be set up to loop giving the appearence of a animated flame or something like that. Is that possible?
I am sure it is, I am no expert on that aspect, but there is a pair of Animate scripts that set and reset visibility. The billboards can be manipulated directly, they don't have to be applied to a surface, they are a surface.
Which scripts are you referencing North? I know Mcasual has a animated texture script, but I was thinking it only works by adding an avi. video to a surface. If an image series is just sitting in a folder would the scripts apply each image to a surface for each frame in a range of frames on the timeline? Hope you understand my question.
In the Animate window, at the bottom left, is a drop-down menu to access the aniBlocks installed on your system. I believe the aniMatePlus folder is included with Studio (it's been a while). Not sure if it can be used without Animate2 (again, it's been a while), but that was just an example of what can be done, since the Visibility property does not appear to be animate-able. They are 30 frame blocks, so some adjustments would be needed if you want to string a bunch together to switch on and off every, oh, say, 3 to 6 frames with a little overlap.
That is interesting North, I found the aniblock you are talking about in Animate2 in the aniMatePlus folder like you said. So how does this work? Do I apply it to a plane (or billboard)with a single image applied) and have say 20 or 30 of these planes all aligned in one spot and us the visability aniblock to turn on and off each plane in a sequence? Seems live a pretty heavy overhead in the scene, so am screwing up what you are saying some how? The only way I coud se to use a single plane is to have a video applied to the plane.
I do really like those aniblocks for turning lights on and off, I might be able to create a very interesting light show using those.
Select the billboard effect in the scene and click the plus sign in Animate. This will add the item to the timeline. Drag one of the aniBlocks onto the timeline. You can drag it around, lengthen it, shorten it and all sorts of other stuff that I am unfamiliar with. Drag the other aniBlock and drop it next to the first. They should snap together.
While the element is selected in the scene, hovering the mouse over the aniBlock in the menu will actually play the contents of that aniBlock, which in this case just turns it on or off, not too exciting.
Click on one block in the timeline, and it should change to a form where you can drag either end to resize. Each image would be visible for a couple of frames, and invisible for the rest of the duration. The second image would be invisible while the first is visible, maybe a little overlap, then visible for a couple of frames, then invisible, etc., etc. You can copy a timeline's worth of aniBlocks from one element to another, so add all the billboards, and copy the sequence, adjusting each one to display in time. Could get tedious. There might be some ways to optimize the workflow, but I do not know firsthand.
You can scrub through the timeline by dragging the playback head to see if you are on the right track (no pun intended).
Thanks North, I'm following...........I think. But you are saying what I said before...right. For each image in the sequence, you need a seperate billboard, and the aniblocks are just turning them off and on as the scrubber progresses through the timeline correct? So if I have an image sequence of 6 images I need 6 billboards each with it's own track in the aniMate timeline, if the are 15 images in the sequence I need 15 billboards and 15 tracks.......is that rght?
@Xellosz Yes, Iray is included. The full download is about 2-1/2Gigs. No idea if I needed all of that, but it should be fun to explore what can be done with it.
Correct. One per track. I tried one with 10 images, no discernable memory load...
Xellosz, I hope all this talk about using this Jepes bundles as animated billboards was was useful info to you as well, since you were origially just asking about it being Iray.
I got the bundle. I'll try to put it in use.
