Graphics Card
I am sure this has been asked before but I am looking for something more current.
I have rececently Started playing with DAZ3d and I am finding that my reders can take much longer than expected. It has even crashed by PC a few times. Since I was not a gamer I did not put too much into my grapics card I have a NVidia GeFore GTX970. I see on the DAZ site they Recomend Nvidina RTX 2060 or better Wanted to get the groups opinion on what I shoud look for . Can some of you give some recomendations of card I should look for. Also should I look to by a new card or look For a used higer end card on Ebay is someone is uprading. My gut feel is I should be newer technology. FYI I am not looking to buy a $2K as I am more of a hobiest so I am reluctant to give a budget I would prefer to soend less but I am not apposed to spend more if the right thing to do
Processor Intel I7-6700K 4. GHZ
Memory 32GB
Graphics NVidia GeFore GTX970
Thanks

One thing to note is that non-RTX cards have a bunch of code sent across to make up for the lack of RTX featrues built in - as a result they effectively have less memory than RTX cards, and if memory runs out the render will drop to CPU or stop (depending on settings).
I don't know how much money you are looking to spend, but you should definitely consider perhaps a RTX 3070 once the supply situation sorts itself out in the next few months. I believe it retails for $600 US, but it has 8 GB VRAM and is 3-4x faster in renders than the GTX 970 based in initial benchmark results I have seen. Your CPU and RAM should be fine unless you go for big scenes (more than 3-4 figures with HD textures). I am running a i7-6850k CPU and 64 GB RAM with a 12 GB VRAM GPU and can run renders with up to 16 G8 figures with HD textures turned off and texture sizes reduced to < 2K using the Scene Optimizer tool. When I had 32 GB RAM earlier this year I still could fit 7-8 characters in a scene without running out of system RAM to initiate the render.
I used a 970 for a couple of years. It's a great card, only you have to optimise your scene as the available RAM is really not enough for anything other than a character portrait or maybe two characters if you don't fill your scene with props. Optimisation tools are available in the store (halving texture sizes and so on).
As for what to upgrade to I would honestly wait until 2021. I went for a 2070 RTX knowing it was first generation new RT and it's pretty good but what I'd really like is a 3070 class with 16Gb. That's not going to happen this year but probably will next. I suspect once supply ramps up so will old second hand cards on ebay (buyer beware as always) at super cheap prices. That's most likely a 2021 event too.
Either way, be patient and meanwhile get hold of a script to optimise your scenes.
Thank you everyone for the inputs. I am still deciding what direction to go. I am not so worried about speed it is more the ability to render a scence without crashing and it would be nice if I could use the computer while it is running. I I wanted to be cheap for a while would it do me much good to add a second matching card to my PC. I am mostly running two Monitors and a drawing tablet

It seems if I look at the 1080 8GB cards they could be just a little cheaper than RTX 2060 6GB
