Can anyone suggest any good high detail (as in they look good even in close-ups) fish for the DAZ Studio/Poser ecosystem? Specifically bass and maybe cat fish but just fish in general.

There is a bass in the DAZ Store and various ocean perch and rockfish but they aren't very high detail (or maybe they are but the ad images don't show it).
There are these ones over at Rendo: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/3d-underwater-fauna-fishes-of-the-ocean/122904/
Ocean Wonders fish look great, although they're not quite the species you're looking for.
yeah, it's surprising there isn't a quality US freshwater fish pack available. I'd love a quality morphing largemouth bass
there are some pricey fishes at Turbosquid
I could certainly use some not so pricey HQ fish:)
I have a couple of bass from TS, but they need mouth morphs for my use and I sucked at trying to create and add them
...hmmm
...I live in the Pacific Northwest and for the most part, it is sort of the other way around, they come inland into freshwater rivers to spawn, but otherwise live the majority of their lives in the ocean. There are a few varieties that can be found in the Great Lakes but they are not native and were stocked back in the 1970s
As to new fish for Daz, there is a collection of tropical ones

We have rainbow trout that look and even act like salmon but they live their entire lives in fresh water and swim up fresh water streams to mate like salmon.
Some of the fish on turbosquid really do look amazing, and even if they're pricey, they're not so expensive that I would be able to justify just making a new fish model myself.
What I would like to know though is what's the deal with their rigging? This one for example... https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/catfish-animation-model-1511658
Or are pretty much none of the products on turbosquid ready for posing in DAZ?
no won't be rigged for DAZ but if you have Poser11+ you might be able to import the FBX and save a cr2 that would be rigged, no guarantee even then though
Hmm, ok, fair enough.
Does anyone know if Turbosquid ever does sales?
Yes, there are sales from time to time.
I have bought from Turbosquid from time to time and there are sales. Just when you sign up for account, subscribe to emails. Also realize that you'll likely have to see some conversion work for some models (if you want to buy such models). eg, I bought a model that was Maya only so they converted to Blend & Wavefront Obj format for me, free of charge beyond purchase price, & made clear no rigging was converted when they did the conversion.
