Geez Apple, why can't there be nVidia drivers!!!

It's frustrating. The tech is there but according to strange politics it just does not work. Had the opportunity to test a Sonnect Breakaway box with a simple Radeon RX 5700 XT. Of course you cannot use this setup for iRay rendering but even that old card slashed dForce times from 7 min via CPU (current 2,4 GHz 8-core i9) to 2:30 min via GPU. I would get such a box asap if I could use it with a nVidia card also for rendering. Speeding up only dForce is not worth it. Damn Apple and nVideo - get your stuff together. Else I can only hope that Octane Mac will be available soon and easy to connect.

A quick Google search can give you the reasons why there are no nVidia drivers.  The short answer is that that their business relationship had been eroding for  a decade or decade and a half.  There were a few flubbed products and missed deadlines that irked Apple.  Nvidia didn't find makig low energy high performace gpu's very profitable.  At this point, Apple is moving toward making their own chips that suits their own needs so there is pretty much no hope that they will come together.

This isn't really Apple's fault. It's Daz and Studio which have to enable an external GPU, not Apple. Apple supports external GPUs but it's up to the app developers to enable their use in their apps. I have a Radeon RX 5700 XT hardwired into my iMac's motherboard so I can't upgrade my GPU. The only way boost graphics would be an external GPU and many Mac apps allow for this configuration. The reason why you can't do it in Studio is because Daz hasn't enabled it. To be fair, this probably isn't a matter of just flipping a switch. There's likely a lot of complex coding which would be needed. But given that Studio can put a lot of demands on the GPU, allowing for an external boost would be very helpful.

The point here is iray, which is limited to nvidia. As long Apple doesnt provide/allow/certify nvidia drivers on their OS,  you can't really consider it for DAZ Studio.

Btw. DAZ Studio does support external GFX. I run a Cubix loaded with dual TitanX fine on Win10....

  • The Edit command is in the (currently broken graphicked) menu next to the check box at top-right of the post.

Right-click on thumbnail>Copy Link location (not copy iamge link)

Insert a new image using the button on the toolbar above the text box, paste in the copied link, Adjust size if it's over 800 pixels, Accept.

You do have to have the image uploaded to a publicly available source (e.g. a forum post attachment) - the data can't be embedded in the post. that also means you must leave the attachment after inserting the inline version.

No, you can attach an image, but if you want it to be inline and larger you need to leave the thumbnail version.
