I never saw this one on the Freebees page?
I never saw this one on the Freebees page?
I did ... the http://www.daz3d.com/summer-of-freebies page shows a lot of "permanent" (for the moment permanent) freebies - and one that is changing every day ... I have made it a habit to look at it every day now.
Todays

and
http://www.daz3d.com/summer-of-freebies/fantasy-camp-ii
methinks ...
As I have them all, it is a bit hard to check ...

Strange - I'm checking the page every day with this one:
http://taosoft.dk/software/freeware/stbr-daz/
so I would have noticed it instantly as it's one of the few I don't have already. Must have forgotten to check that day then...
I am alerting people in another forum and looked at that thread - I wrote about the Sweet Dreams on August 11, 2014, 04:44:24 PM.
OK, thanks. Either I missed it or there was a glitch when I checked. Never mind, I rarely use that kind of stuff anyway, just wonder why I overlooked it...
Does anyone know if the Summer of Freebies promo has ended? The rotating banner still promotes it, but there was no new freebie offered today. Hmmm...

Same observation lead me here, MW...and what's this policy of sale end date secrecy? That is strange and seems a good way to encourage some people -not- to check back when they get a paycheck...those with limited funds and time like to plan ahead.
I've never appreciated the business tactic of building false urgency. It's somewhat related to bait-and-switch. (When the end date sneaks up, it's very directly related.)
Good product, good price, people will buy. If they know they have time to buy later and they don't have the money now, they'll come back and buy later. If they know they won't have that time, they'll find a way -- borrow money or something. Not knowing just seems like little more than a turn-off.
Sorry to whine on a thread about free stuff, which I DO appreciate and have bought a couple of side items because of it. I come back to DAZ with my paltry spending money because DAZ has good products. A sneaky policy makes me want to check in much less often, though.
No freebie today, either. For crying out loud, at least get rid of the banner if you're going to end it!
well technically, the "old" freebies from the sale are still there, so it isn't to 100% inaccurate - but they could change the banner about the "new freebie every day" to "all old summer freebies still around" or something.
amen to all what VoltisHart said. i wasn't here until 2013, so i don't know how sales management was before. i think i've read threads mentioning a harsh change... anyway, the "right here right now" sale pressure is indeed enormous. personally, if it wasn't for all sale products i monitor wih great attention, my runtime'd be half empty, i have a big bunch of felines to feed first ~
I'm, not seeing new freebies either...Sunday or Monday. I checked summer of freebies and regular freebies. No joy.
There was nothing yesterday (Postal Props on Saturday was the last one to appear for just one day) so I suspect nobody will be on hand to add a freebie today until the Utah office opens up for the week.
The freebies (those available for a single day) I've noted since the 6th during this promotion have been:
Postal Props
Diner Food 1
Dryden for Hiro 5
Hat, hat, hat
Old Fashioned Bicycles
Juggling Act for V4
Dystopian Weapon Cache 1
Real Tanks & Containers
Quick Check Lane
Diner Tableware
H4 Hovertank
Sweet Dreams
Fountain of Health
Deco Bus Stop
Summertime Grill
Enchanted Island
Candle Collection
Fantasy Camp II was also a 'daily' freebie but has stuck around since appearing. There were 13 other semi-permanent freebies that had been there throughout EDIT - these have now gone.
It is because they hope that you will scrape up the funds immediately. Plus if you knew sale 1's deadline, you could wait until the very end and possibly grab the item on sale 2 for a better price. I wait, but I remember people whining at me just because I waited and got some great Gen2F and Gen2M stuff for free in interactive lessons; stuff they jumped at the possibility to buy and bought full-price or 30% off.
No worries DAZ Sleigh comes through rain and snow.... but those monsoon floods might have been a problem.
Just FYI -- Summer of Freebies continues with Pickup Dred, another nifty neo-retro vehicle from petipet: Off Site Commercial (and non related) link removed . I guess the gap was a glitch??

A glitch? That's fine, happens to everyone from time to time, I can forgive them. Assuming they take responsibility for the "glitch" and offer the two additional freebies that should have been released over the weekend.
I've noticed a pattern with these special offers/ sales: when they begin the excitement and enthusiasm is obvious from all sides. Who doesn't love a freebie, 80% off, or the possibility of finding something exciting in fastgrab?! Then, as time goes on the initial excitement begins to diminish, and is glaringly evident by neglecting the sale or category all together. 80% off of M4 and V4? To be honest I'm tired of seeing that banner. Nothing changes within the category, they've advertised the ending of the sale multiple times in what seems to be a bait and switch in an effort to boost sales, because soon after the "sale" ends it's re-launched with a shinny new banner. Maybe they think we're fooled into thinking this sale is "all new"? By this point I'm assuming that the majority of folks that are inclined to load their carts with V4 and M4 products have the majority of what they intend to purchase, meaning that the sale only lingers to gain the attention of potential new customers. Customers who might be excited to discover Daz and find such an impressive sale, but are sure to be disappointed if they check back several days later, and once more a few days after that, just to find that the sale wasn't so special after all because it's still there. If I were the new customer things like this would reduce the likelihood of my regularly returning to the site., what's the point?
Another issue is (again) fastgrab. I was thrilled to find the many bundles offered there last week! I was hopeful that it meant that Daz had finally decided to once again take an interest in this category. Of course, I think it's safe to say that this wasn't the case, judging from the fact that the handful of items (which are offered in addition to the long standing occupants, not in place of) seem to once again be settling in for an extended stay.
Over time, as the "newness" wears off, it also seems that the fine folks at Daz forget that the promotional materials say "everyday," which by my understanding means all seven days that are part of the week. When this has been brought up the standard response is something to the effect of "we don't update those items over the weekend, no one's in the office." For me, this doesn't hold water. In the beginning of whatever promotion is being discussed it was actually updated daily, meaning that it CAN be done. I'd appreciate if someone would let me know at what point in a sale cycle the definition of "everyday" shifts to M-F non-holiday, then shifts again to "whenever we feel like it".
I'm not sure what the solution to this problem is- perhaps shorter promotions? Fewer promotions running simultaneously? Some action certainly needs to be taken. The lack luster follow-through is a huge issue for me as a customer.
There's my 2-cents for today!
The solution is clear and simple: Communication about what's really going to happen. DAZ used to have so much goodwill with customers -- customer service is what really made them great. The prices and product quality follow close in line afterward, but customers always prefer good, concise and friendly interaction with sales staff, before they consider parting with money, be it more or less than the competition.
Yes, for those who weren't here before the current site system was introduced, we used to have "Sale ends XXXX" (or something to that effect) on every single item page, if there was a sale. Newsletters and forum announcements duplicated that info. There was no hiding and trumping up urgency. Most of the surprises were good ones and if for some reason (on purpose or not) a sale got yanked away before most people were ready, at least half the time it would be back for a couple days, to much fanfare. I won't say they were perfect, but they tried really hard to make us happy and we loved that.
The communication between staff and customers was awesome and we felt like part of the family. Spending money was fun, at least until the bank statements came back! We wanted to buy quickly so we could play, not because the carpet could be yanked out from under us at any given time.
To the best of my knowledge, phone support is as wonderful as it's always been and the staff I've interacted with personally have still seemed really friendly, but the site and the evident sales policy have gotten a bit cold. It makes me rather sad.
I don't know if management feels these changes are necessary for the amount of customers they have now or it took a few years for the merger to change the company in these ways or if somebody just decided one day that this is how things should be...but last I heard, profits were not skyrocketing and maybe bringing back some of the old ways might bring back some of the old benefits.
If profits are skyrocketing...well, is this a subtle way to tell me my money isn't needed? :(
This is exactly what i feel - quick, get it before it's gone! an induced stress that has the effect of euthanizing my brain cells as to if i really need this product right now, which might happen less if i had a few days to mull over it quietly ~ brilliant move saleswise, target reached.
ok yes, i know, i've barely been over 1 year here, still in my greedy phase ;)

It is not due to the fact you can be perceived as a bit new - it is because you are a human being with its brain working correctly as the evolution programmed it. If you see an opportunity to get a good offer - a simulation of a hunt - you are drawn to that.

true. though working "correctly" is a grey zone... seems it hasn't adapted to the latest modern issues - evolution hasn't foreseen the advent of sales department, obviously ^_^ ~
if sales had been created on day 1-8, Eve would have got a 6lbs family-bag of apples together with a 10-pack of underwear. or, on a less creativist note, i guess the cavemen had issues like us already: "grab a good slice of the freshly killed mammoth NOW or it will be rotten soon - you don't know when."

... because it depends on the weather ...
;)
oh noes... you just gave them an idea on how to justify the lack of info :D
Oh the glitch,
Yes the glitch,
Oh the glitch is back!
Repeat the truck
As a matter of fact
The glitch that got me was the only day that they posted something that I didn't have already AND actually wanted, the containers, I could not get it into my cart for free no matter what I did. It kept coming up for something like $6.95.
But you know, despite the occasional glitch and lack of communication, DAZ is still so far ahead of a recently "redesigned" competitor (that shall remain nameless) that there's just no comparison.

Actually the truck wasn't posted on 25 Aug until around 9 or 10 AM DAZ time. It was up for about a 24 hour day and was replaced with Sculpting Tools at around 9 - 10 AM. So, it looks like they may have simply changed the time from the midnight sales up date to the start of the DAZ workday; maybe to accommodate posting the new freebie.

And I notice there's now only one item each day in the "Summer Of Freebies" category, instead of every item that was in the category when the sale offer was originally run a few months ago.
Was anyone else utterly becroggled by that? It's nice to have a second go at any one-off freebies we might have missed, but having to pick out the one new item out of fourteen... er, make that fifteen... probably... was definitely annoying. I actually thought for the first few days the reappearance of this offer was Another DAZ Glitch™ because all the same items (I thought) were always showing. :-/
http://www.daz3d.com/summer-of-freebies/sculpting-tools
That was yesterday's freebie item.
On the first day of sculpting tools
My true love said to me
Carve a partridge on that pear tree
On the second day of sculpting tools
My true love made me make
Two sculptured doves
And carve a partridge on that pear tree
On the third day of sculpting tools
My true love made me make
Three wooden hens
Two sculptured doves
And carve a partridge on that pear tree
On the fourth day of sculpting tools
My true love said to me
Chip out four birds
Three wooden hens
Two sculptured doves
And carve a partridge on that pear tree
*sniffs* *wipes out tear*
this is just... so beautiful!
honest, by far the best rant about something wrong i read - ever! :D
EDIT: ok, not having been raised in the english culture, i didn't realize it was a well-known carol... my bad. still, best way to rant. i hope you won't have to carve drummers ;)
...at least Fastgrab's working again.
You could use the sculpting tools to render the old joke about the absent-minded professor taking the statue to bed and chiseling on his wife!
