Not only that, but you can normally open images in a new tab, but now these images just download as if you wanted to save them.
I think they're not converting to webp - but alas, will report in case it's unintended.
I dunno. They're really sharp, great quality promo images. If anything, I'd say all other promos should be like this one.
Oh, nice quality. It is good to really see them.
Agreed.
joelebleepingecko does it again!
I spy Cake One too.
I think the size & clarity are good & I get the full sized images without downloads starting and such.
+1
surely you can compress a 2000x2600 jpg below 4mb and still have only imperceptable difference
just seems like a waste of bandwidth
Have you noticed that DIM also has giant thumbnails now if you download thumbnails for products?
Giant thumbnails would be great. One of my biggest peeves with Daz studio is the tiny icons in the smart content library. At least follow the icon sizeing available in things like windows explorer/file manager, give me the option for Extra Large. Sure, tiny are great if you're on a old 1024x768 screen resolution monitor and a 14.4k modem, but 1920x1080 or heaven forbid you have a 4k monitor actually running in 4k they are so tiny I can barely see them. Squinting my way through the library...
But for DIM currently mine is like many others, totally not working 0 anything for download post daz site upgrade.
I wish I could see them - my DIM won't download any thumbnails today (nor can it find my new purchases)
Maybe the resize code is broken.
Having large and less compressed promo images is a good thing in my book, I don't understand this at all. I wouldn't mind if Daz had poster sized promos, in fact I would much prefer that. It would give customers a chance to zoom in and really see the product they might be purchasing, which is supposed to be the point of promotional pictures in the first place. If your machine is not capable of handling a 4MB pic... <.<
I also think it's a good thing. The higher quality promos the better!
Even if it's "broken", I'd much rather see support go to other things that are higher priority.
That could be. It would also explain why I'm seeing quite a few products that have the first promo image very small.
I've wondered about those small promos too, but I imagine it might be for smartphones or something?
It's not just one (or a few) 4MB pic; it just seems to be a trend over the last several years, that web pages, including dependent code, images, etc., get bigger and bigger. The average DAZ sale page is a good bad example — I have a moderate speed connection, it usually takes just a few seconds to download and display most pages in the store and forums (once the download finally starts, which I suspect might be a separate issue). Except the typical "today's sale offer" page, which can take thirty seconds to a minute to finish downloading. Much more often than not, I see almost nothing except random unstyled text on a black screen until this is half done, then the individual page elements trickle onscreen. I have no idea what the total download is, but it must be huge.
Eek, I take it all back! I now have working DIM, and those giant thumbnails. I've discovered the drawback: you can no longer hover over the product's line in DIM to see otder number, order date, installed date, etc, they go AWOL off the top of the screen with that giant thumbnail. (By the way my sceen is a "full HD" one 1920 x 1080, so it's not just that I have a tiny monitor!)
Yay! They are not webp-Dingsbums any more! I like that!
Wait, you can get thumbnails in DIM? How?
i'm wondering, too. giant thumbnails?
Right click in DIM to get the context menu, it has some thumbnail options. You can find/change the thumbnail folder under Advanced Setttings > Downloads

Wow, thanks. Never knew about this. My rendering computer is currently offline due to a WiFi issue, but I’ll definitely try this.
