beginner question: skin texture details

I am making my first renders and I am struggling to get realistic results. I am not unhappy with the lighting but somehow the renders are missing a lot of detail compared to the simple texture shaded preview in Daz. Look at the details on the hand and face in this example. I am using the following skin texture and lighting.

Am I doing something wrong? Any tips for better results?

I see about the same amount of skin details on your render and the character promo images. I think this is just how her skin is intended to look. Marcius is a creator who tends to make slightly toony characters, not really high-detail, photorealistic characters.

I don't have this particular character, but I suspect she has different maps in the Base Color and Translucency slots? If so you can replace the Translucency maps with the Base Color maps and see if this brings out some of the skin imperfections more.

  • The sub-surface scattering tends to wash out fine detail, and I can't decide if you have an HDR enviroment cintributing to the lighting - that, or lights with area, will both tend to soften detail since the light is coming from multiple directions.
