Applying materials/textures to landscapes

Hello out there!
I have a question for some of the sellers out there who create some of the environments/lanscapes on DAZ. (First Bastion, Stonemason, etc.)
What program do you use to "paint" your landscapes (such as Stonemason's Winter Terrains) to get them to look so good?
I would love to learn how you do this and would like to see more for sale on DAZ.
