Rowan Trees / Alpha

Rowan trees has a setting called "Alpha". I couldn't find a description of what "alpha" means in this context...does anyone know?

    I don't have that product but "Alpha" often refers to transparency / opacity mask

    Yes   probably is a trans map (opacity map) for the leaves.

    I bought that & I understood it to mean there are 2 versions of the tree. One using alpha for the shapes and one using accurate modeled geometry for the shapes (leaves, fruit).
