BFI Dental Braces product --Stalled-- (Plus Head Gear images)

Shown is a raw, low-polygon versions of the Headgear I'm working on. There is a top and bottom part.
The top head gear section is an attachment to the main bottom part.

It's meant to be part of an add-on product to the main BFI Braces shown in the close up image.

Currently, I'm stalled on the main BFI braces project.

When I submitted my BFI braces for product review, it was immediately declined before being tested. Reason being; "no market for this."

This confused me as I was excepted as a vender based on the early crude promo images as work progressed and the DAZ Team seemed eager to QA test my work. The Promo images improved significantly by the time I uploaded my work.

I'm easily discouraged so I've been in a bit of a funk this last week. I've been filling time by building the Head Gear until I can figure out what to do next.
I guess I could try Renderocity, but I'd have to repackage the work done so far and learn how to use Poser and how it handles files. Since Poser plays a good portion of their merchandise. I don't even own a current version of Poser to test against (don't have the money).

What do you all think, is this something you guys would buy? I could use some positive feedback to help build up my self-esteem.

You know you can sell DS content at Rendo... you don't have to redo anything, just write a readme file.

Ya, but I know a lot of products are targeted to the poser crowd. At least here, I feel at home.

Since I haven't tested my product against Poser; It may work in poser, or it might not. I was hoping that during testing if they could tell me if I needed to adjust anything. But it never got that far.

Anyway, Currently I've been trying to figure out a way to use Collision to push the hair under the Padding of my Headgear with as little dial movements as possible and make it easy for buyers to emulate.

It took many tests to finally get it to work. Here's a proof of concept renders; before and after.

Hi Basis! Just wanted to let you know that I think the braces look awesome! You've even taken the time to include the colorful rubber bands, which I personally remember classmates from years ago being eager to come to school and compare with their friends who sported a mouth full of different colors. Of course, if Halloween, Christmas or any other holiday was approaching everyone raced to the Orthodontist so that their mouths could adequately reflect their excitement for the upcoming holiday. As far as I know, unless it's changed in the past decade, few people escape childhood without braces, and I'm not sure how I've overlooked the need for them in my runtime until now.

Again, they look great and I'd love to have them. I have a question if you don't mind? Is it possible to close the characters mouth around the braces, or would they just be added to poses when teeth are exposed? Either way, I think you're doing a wonderful job, keep up the good work :-)

Maybe while you're deciding how to proceed from here you could create a retainer? Not for placing inside the character's mouth, but it would be cool to have in a cafeteria scene, where you're sure to find at least a few retainers scattered around the table while the kids eat.

I have the mouth open to show the braces fully, but I made expression morphs and lip protrusion morphs that can convey the presents of braces, even when unseen.

Each Bracket is connected to the tooth it's on. The Band stretches automatically when the mouth opens. If you have teeth morphs the braces should automatically move to accommodate the change (some morphs don't have auto-follow enabled and have to be enabled from the main Victoria 6 node prior to applying.). If you apply Full body morphs or face morphs, the braces will also shift to stay on their assigned teeth.

So the braces are good for animation purposes.

I also made extensive modular morphs and brace shapes. One of which is a retainer.

I spent many months building it to be the most user friendly accessory possible. You attach it and any changes you make are purely aesthetic.
No morphs are needed to correct anything and it should be fully compatible to any future Genesis 2 Female character.

I have a larger thread titled under "Braces for Impact" which has more information.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

That's not really true. Yes, there are a lot of Poser-centric focused artists there, but there are also a large number of very good Studio focused artists like DarioFish and many more who bounce between the figures like Out of Touch, P3Design, Lunchlady, etc. And, needless to say, that's where ZevO, Sickleyield and many other DAZ regulars first started offering their Genesis products. I actually ran the numbers a while back and found that there are were nearly as many character sets for Genesis on Rendo as there were at DAZ, and there's been a huge spike in the production of clothing since the G2s were introduced.

More to the point, trying to entirely remake the product for Poser seems to be counterproductive, as it's a G2F product and the majority of G2F users are using studio. It would be a lot more work to service what's ultimately going to be a much smaller end market. With that in mind, I'd echo the others in saying put what you have up for sale somewhere so you can at least see if there really is a market before you invest all the extra time.

Yes, the dental braces are something I made and looking to sell.

I completed the braces last month and is ready to go. The Headgear is an add-on I've been working on.

I am very proud of my Braces packaging. It's a very clean interface. When Genesis2 Female is selected, the braces product group is under accessories.

But when you open that product group all you see is one item. Just the braces, none of the hundred presets.
I've always found it mildly annoying that many item's presets are shown when Gen2 is selected. I'm of the school of thought that "presets should only be seen when applicable."

When you select the Braces after loading it onto Gen2, There are 3 product file groupings, One is for the attachment that connects to the braces, 2nd is the preset grouping for O-rings and the 3rd product is for the Elastic Bands presets.
When the attachment is selected the only presets seen are for the elastic band colors.

Actually I need a male version of this.

I made a Male version of this too. Due to the nature of the rigidity regions and the number of different intersecting polygons it's not something that can be popped into the transfer Utility. Doing so creates braces "taffy."

Had the first one gotten out the door, I would have packaged the Gen2 Male and Genesis versions and sold them at half price, upon purchase of one of the other versions.
