Not sure if I understand your post correctly....
The new render engine isn't a replacement for Iray, it's just "another" render engine you can use inside of DAZ Studio, just as 3Delight.
So you can use it, or not. It will give a very different result compared to Iray or 3Delight. It is very fast for some previewing, and for some, it will be sufficient for what they are doing.
The choice of render engine you are using is still yours. For example, I'll keep using Iray, though I will probably use Filament for certain things, like storyboarding renders.
This might help, the actual YT video link from the Filament page here
i tried that video.. but got lost at the part where it starts about shadows
nothing happens
Welll for now i will keep using IRay
very sad.. because the examples look so great
There's a thread over in the DAZ Studio section of the forum: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/445567/filament-tutorials-shaders-lights#latest
From that thread, this post is very thorough: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/6142987/#Comment_6142987
I don't think filament is really meant for stills and probably the engine for that is going to stay IRAY. What it is particularly good at because of speed is animations. It is going to take some getting used to though. It is pretty much instantanious on my machine. I can see doing a 5 minute clip with it. I'd grow really old trying to do that in IRAY.
So filament don't work with Iray?
Then I guess it's a pass, I'm still learning iray.
It isn't a matter of "work with", Filament and Iray are different render engines — just like the OpenGL that drives the default Viewport, and 3Delight that used to be the one and only render option until Iray came along a few years ago. You're not being forced to change everything to Filament, it's just another option. If you're happy using Iray there's no need to change.
It is not about being happy or not
ha ha.. i want to understand it... better
I saw a link to a good manual.. Have to g o to 'work' now.. will look at that tonight
