This is off topic but

This is off topic but I haven't been able to get an answer any place else. My browser keeps jumping back to the previous address. Doesn't matter what browser I use (explorer, firefox, whatever), it continues to happen. I have Avast virus protection and it hasn't found anything.

Could be mechanical.  Have you tried with a different mouse or keyboard?

  • Two wireless mice, one wired mouse and built in touch pad. The same thing happens.

do you use the touchpad? If not try diabling it in Device manager - It could be a conflict between the mouse driver and the touchpad driver, especially if you use WIndows 10 gestures.

I don't know anything about Avast. I have McAfee antivirus and I did have a problem a whie back with my browser showing odd stuff in searches and McAfee couldn't find anything wrong. I tried SpyHunter, this found and removed some malware and fixed the problem. I don't know if this is because anti spyware software is better than anti virus at dealing with browser problems or just that some programs can find malware that others miss. You can try SyHunter 5 for free, the free version will tell you if it finds anything but you have to pay a subscription to get it to fix the problem.

And nothing else acts strange? Only the web browser?

  • All browsers use alt-> left arrow as the shortcut for go back. make sure those keys aren't stuck or haven't been remapped to something that is stuck.

Detach all controllers e.g. mouses, keyboard etc. along with their drivers and then attach keyboard and see what happens? Then attach a mouse and see what happens. Also try to find out if any other wireless device is interfering with the mouse signal.

  • Make sure your mouse is not hungry.  (i.e. battery is OK)
