On the product page [for the Octane render kit] it says:

Sign up and download the Free Plugin.
...

I created an account and now what? It just asks me to pay $30 a month etc. How is that free?

And now in the body of the post - please remember Please put your question in the post body and the title - Daz 3D Forums

There is a free version of Octane, and of the DS plug-in, though it has some limitations. See https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/451361/octane-content-in-sales-ticker/p1

wow, I forget I'm a customer when I come here. It's like being back in primary school. I assume people read the subject of a thread before they click on it and read the question. Is that so unreasonable? WOW! You know it's me that's given you $1000's not the other way around? Right.

This is not Daz customer service, this is a user to user forum. People here try to help other customers because we're nice, but no one has to. The amount of money you've spent in the store is totally irrelevant.

You're expected to follow the terms of service for said forum if you post here. That rule is there because yes, sometimes people miss things when they're only in the thread title. We're all humans.

Go to otoy.com and create your account. Be sure you're logged in. Select  "Shop" from the horizontal menu at the top of the page and then click "Try" in the vertical menu at the left. That should present the page where you can download the free OctaneRender Prime. Cheers.

Thanks, I did manage to download it but, I'm having trouble signing in. It only gave me the option to use my Google or Facebook account, so I used my Google account. It said I was signed in as Abner K  then somewhere else it said my username was Abner. When it came to installing it told me to log in but, it just won't accept either Abner K, Abner, or my email with my Google password. I tried asking for my password to be reset but I got no notification to reset it. I wish it had let me just sign up wtih fresh detials so I knew what they were exactly. I gave up in the end otherwise I'd have thrown the computer out of the window. Why these things have to be so difficult is beyond me. It's like they don't want you to try their product. I can't even look it today. I'll stick with iray for now. I don't even know if it's better. The only comparison I've seen was by Laticts (or however it's spelt) But, the comparison showed one with brown tone mapping for iray and one with blue tone mapping for octane. Obviously the blue is going to look more lively. Not a fare match. I found another comparison that used totally different scenes.

I'll leave it for now for the sake of sanity.

  • It took me a little while to figure it out. Otoy could have arranged things more smoothly. But OctaneRender Prime is accessible and it's free of charge. I'm guessing that it's as nice an introduction to Octane as can be expected. And the Render Kit provides four .mp4 tutorials for beginners like me. Tally-ho, as they across the pond used to say.

  • I'm having the same problems as AbnerK. I got the link from otoy to the page to reset a new password, which I did. Several attempts were made to to login to the site, and all I got in return was yet another 'droid generated message to reset. Gave up.
