Daz Studio sometimes freezing up for minutes at a time

Okay, earlier today I installed the free Octane add on, but haven't changed any settings over to try rendering in it.  I still have it set to Iray render engine., with viewport set to Texture Shaded.

I don't know if this is something caused by Octane, or if its just a concidence, but now when I do certain things in Daz, it seems to just freeze up for several minutes at a time.  I loaded an Iray scen, set the viewport to NVIDIA Iray to do a spot render on an Iray scene, went to zoom the view in a bit towards the scene in viewport with the mousewheel, and Daz then froze up for several minutes before finally coming back out of it.  A bit later (with Daz viewport back in Texture Shaded mode), I loaded a differnt scene, then decided to delete all objects from the Scene tab... and Daz immediately froze up again for several minutes, still showing all the items in Scene tab all hilighted for deletion.  And there weren't very many things in the scene, basically a couple walls, a floor, some basic furniture and one Genesis 1 character.

Any idea what's up with that?  It wasn't doing that before.  0o

  • Yup, noticed it too. 4.14 sometimes freezes for such a long time ( > 10 minutes) that I have to shut the the program down through the task manager. I don;t have octane though. Never had it in 4.12 ( which I used before). I now had it multiple times so it becomes a bit of a thing.

By default the Octane plugin is set to automatically update and convert materials and objects in the scene. This is what causes the disruptions. You can disable this in the Octane preferences. In fact, that's recommended in the DAZ tutorial videos on Octane and Octane render kit.
if you are not using octane for a while, you can also disable it in the DS plugin settings.

Okay, poked around a bit, trying to figure out where the option to disable Octane was.  Found it in Render > OctaneRender Main under the "burger menu" and selected Disable Pluggin from there.
