Latest DS versions & DIM, I want it all now right away - any pointers?

(mid-August 2014) I was thinking of erasing DAZ Studio from my main computer (where the content is, sadly, all messed up) and upgrading to the latest DS and DIM.

I've downloaded the latest User Guide and Quickstart docs but haven't read them yet... is there anything I should know about this process? Computer would be Win7 64-bit.

Btw, I don't think I mentioned this but as of a couple of weeks ago DAZ was listed on Adobe's home pages as an official partner in terms of sourcing models! Wow, that must mean a lot, I'm thinking.

Oh yes... here's the link: http://www.photoshop.com/products/photoshop/3d/content?sdid=KLZXQ

I started from a similar situation.
The first thing I did was create 3 content folders.
One was managed content, another was unmanaged and the third was freebies.

Then tell DIM about the locations and just start installing.

I'd not heard of the adobe thing. Very cool! Thank you for sharing.

I'm just no help with setting stuff up though. I just let it load where it wants to .

Thanks. Off the top of my head I still don't get which is "managed" or "unmanaged", and it's getting more confusing -- there's that 2013 tutorial message about having freebies in your "Smart Content", done by adjusting the metadata IIRC... http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/20018/

Ok, my first time out with DIM didn't work so well. I'm pretty sure my DAZ password is good, as I've accessed my account recently and I bought the brown bear (wow, 150 Mb zip file!) and the fish, but every time I tried to run DIM, all I would get is an error message.

Maybe for some reason it's not reading the current pw... I'm tops at having legacy bits of one thing or another interfere with current operations.

Hope the appearance of DAZ on the official Photoshop web page isn't a prelude to Adobe gobbling up DAZ!

Ok, I tried again - I clicked on "Download everything". This time it went straight into downloading "Win32x" DIM, even though I prefer 64-bit versions of DS.

One thing I noticed is that I'm getting some garbage characters on www.daz3d.com - it doesn't happen on any other web pages like Hotmail or Yahoo, or the New York Times say. Only DAZ.

Example: notice the apparent letter "H" just below the DAZ logo in this screenshot from my computer. There is also the number "4" a bit further down. I get this sort of thing when I am browsing products - going from screenshot to screenshot of the sample renders and product features and so on.

I've marked the garbarge characters with hand-drawn red arrows.

I guess I'm wondering what would be the best version of DS for me, and what order to install things in, if any. And should I delete all of my already-installed stuff? Everything is messed up on this computer; not even Genesis shows up in the content.

I doubt it is an indication of that.

I remember seeing those. No clue why they happen though and they went away for me.

You stated a 64 bit preference so I would go with that. Install the "genessis essentials" and "genesis 2 essentials" first. I let DIM install everything where it wanted to. You would then find your content in public/public documents/My DAZ3d Library. Needing to move things depends on what you have already installed and where.
