Big Sur and Daz Studio

I installed "Big Sur" and then found out that Daz Studio can't run on that platform! Apple Customer Support helped me restore to MacOS 10.15.7 from my Backup disk, now I'm back operating. Just goes to show backing PAYS.

I've been watching the rollout of Big Sur and also the new M1 Macs. My 10+ year old iMac is having intermittent issues, so I decided to get a new Mac. I've been running DS on a Mac mini using macOS Sierra most of this year. No problems other than having 8GB of memory on that Mac.
On Monday, I ordered a new, but still running Catalina, MacBook Pro 16" 2.4 GHz i9, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD, and AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB.
Still won't be able to use the GPU for Iray, but the step up in processing power over the Mac mini should make my renders go faster.
And they do, I've run a couple of tests and the new MacBook Pro is quite a lot faster, 5-ish times quicker perhaps, than before. Very satisfied with the results. Would have loved to have gotten a new M1 Mac, but knew Big Sur would kill all the DAZ fun. :)
Not an ideal solution, but I was going to buy a new Mac, so I jumped on one that still had Catalina before it was too late to do so.
I'll be looking forward to seeing DAZ Studio updated for Big Sur next year. By then I'll be looking to pick up whatever iMac Apple is selling at the time.
And Oldminer speaks truth, backing up pays off big time. I've got various drives with both Time Machine backups and cloned drives sitting around. Very helpful for migrating my user files to the new MacBook Pro. And for peace of mind. :)
I'm glad Apple Customer Support helped you restore Catalina on your Mac, Oldminer!

Yes, this is a known issue. I'm glad you were able to roll back. Closing this thread since there are already others.
