Basic, Intermediate and Advanced view

I love Daz studio, rerally. For 5 years now I have been playing with it and growing with the changes, usually happily. However, there is one issue that is driving me crazy with everything over 4.1 and it has slowed my work flow down to a crawl. Advanced view is overly cluttered and overly time consuming with extra buttons to press....not a small thing when you are cleaning up 1000 frames with 5 figures and a plethra of objects. This would be ok if intermediate was actually more useful other than a glorified player. In both basic and intermediate I cannot delete keys, not only can I not delete keys but in intermediate it shows you ALL the keys and not just the selected part of a figure. My work around? I have to have a portable 4.1 to do the lions share of my work and 4.14 is a renderer only....why can you not make intermediate function like the advanced view in 4.1?

Example. I have a hip that is tweaking on frame 100. Because reasons, it has 2 keys and one of them needs to be deleted. In 4.1 I can click the hip and then click delete. Done. SImple and fast. In 4.14 I have to be in advanced view to do anything, to eliminate that second misplaced key I have to click on the hip, open properties, open general/transforms/rotation, highlight the potencial 3 keys and then delete. This makes things overly burdensome since I went from clicking a mouse 2x to 5x. That is over twice as much work and if the keys are close then the highlighting becomes a challenge. Not an improvement. Fix intermediate for us please, make it like the advanced 4.1 for if you are going to make changes that are not an improvement then there is no reason for said changes. Thank you.

  • What do you mean by 4.1 - 4.10.x.x (remember that version numbers are not decimals)? The Delete Keys (Selected Nodes) command from the Timeline option menu (the lined button in the top corner, orr ight-click the tab) works in any View mode.

I am refering to 4.10 and 4.14 as defined at the top of the left hand side of the program, twice mentioned on the opening splash screen and on the shortcut provided by the installation. If there is another name for it then so be it...it has no bearing on the issue regardless. Sigh. I have hours of animations that I cannot do anything with in 4.14. I open them up and they work just fine but if I want to edit them I have to do it in Advanced view and only in Advanced view. The delete button is permenantly greyed out in intermediate, always, everyday and was that way even in BETA.  I will open an animation in intermediate view and it shows every single key from every figure, node and object regardless if I click on a pelvis, a deformer, a box, etc... So in an animation that is 1000 frames, with 5 figures,12+ scripted deformers and a room full of objects that means I am looking at a solid black line on the timeline. So that means I have to show only a few frames on the timeline at a time, like 100. What I find is that if I click on a pelvis node and use the skip to previous or skip to next key it will land on a blank spot where there is no visable key. So since I am not on an actual key (even though I know it is there) I cannot delete squat via the button on the bottom or by clicking on the tab on the upper right hand corner. Thus I have to go to Advanced view to do the simple edit that used to take 2 clicks and now I have to click the pelvis, then the button at the top, advanced view, click on the pelvis again (even though i already clicked it in intermediate), click properties, click general/transforms/rotation, highlight the bend/twist/sideside and then delete. Let us run the numbers I can use 4.10 and click 2x to delete or go to the newer version 4.14 and click 8x....

I am not new to this program, I think I am at year 6. This was an issue in BETA and it is still in existence today. In someone's wisdom I get to click on a properties button and a general transformations button for no reason than to give me 2 extra things to click on to get something done. It is almost like they hired someone who doesn't actually animate to design this.....Blender is looking really sweet right now in comparison and that says a lot. Imagine you buy 2 boxes of nails. Box one you open and grab a nail, done. In box 2 you open and inside is another box named properties and when you open that box you find another box called transformations and you have to open it to get a nail. This anology perfectly sums up the only usable timeline in 4.14.

  • What I fail to understand is why you haven't customized your environment yourself? Daz Studio is extremely flexible like that and it allows you to create a complete new UI if you want. Maybe food for thought?

The individual pabes, however, are less customisable unless it's coded in.
