Materials->Iray->Feminine

Can someone explain to me why I see materials when I got to iRay for a Gen 8 charcter (as an example), and then under that I see Femine, the character's name, and what looks to be the exact same set of materials.

Or, am I missing the difference between those at the iRay level, and those at the Feminine->character-name level?

    The materials at the Feminine>character level are the 3Delight materials.

    I think they are just categorised in two categories - check the ReadMe for the character you are using and under the section:"You can find new icons for this product in the following DS Categories"  you may find it says (for example) both Materials:Iray:Skin and Materials:Iray:Feminine:your-character-name:Skin.

    Right-click on one of the entries and select "Categorise" and you'll find a tick in both places. I've not idea why they do this, I too find it annoying.

    No, I'm sorry, I think I misunderstood your question. I thought you were asking about materials at Materials>Feminine>character-name vs. Materials>Iray>Feminine>character-name.

    After your response, I now interpret your question to be the difference between Materials>Iray and Materials>Iray>Feminine>character-name. And I assume you are talking about Smart Content categories. The difference there depends partly on whether you have the Filter by Context checkbox checked or not. But, Materials>Iray is just a superset of the subcategories below it. A file you see in  Materials>Iray and Materials>Iray>Feminine_character-name are the same files. The subcategories of Feminine and character-name are just ways to further filter the displayed files by category.

    Without Filter by Context, Materials>Iray will show Iray materials for anything you have installed (male and female characters, animals, props, etc.).

    WITH Filter by Context checked, Materials>Iray will show materials for anything you have installed that has metadata compatibility set to match the item that you have selected in the Scene pane. If you have ANY Genesis 8 female character selected in the Scene pane and you go to Materials>Iray, you will see Iray materials for ALL Genesis 8 female characters. If you go to Materials>Iray>Feminine>character-name, you will see ONLY the materials for the selected character-name.

    Thank you.  That's what I had concluded, but was unsure.  Your answer was great.
