Change Parent Stopped Working

Hi all - I'm hoping somoene can give me a hand.

I can no longer change an object's parent - the menu doesn't even load when i select the option by right clicking on an object.  I have no idea what could have caused this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Is it a separate node or a bone? Have you tried drag-and-drop in the Scene pane?
