OT: Dubstep?
a lot of Youtube commenters descibe my really awful computer made music as "Dubstep"
I, living under a rock :red: had never heard of the genre before but now it is popping up everywhere.
my music is simply a result of not wanting to infringe on copyrights when doing animations so I make stuff up to go with it.
not a lot of thought or effort actually goes into it.
I generate tones in Audacity applying filters and sample them in melody assistant for hideous sounds that can be added as notes on a stave or use sound effects imported as instuments
also virtual singer and speakonia for vocals, I do my own harmonies, mostly thirds and fifths in a minor key
my occasional drum beats are really sad, just claps slaps and snares mostly or I just use a repeated canned beat.
mostly syncopated
occasionally my own voice with various VST filters applied, I edit it in audacity over several tracks, cutting pasting, reversing sections, applying filters and effects to make it even more attrocious.
then I inflict it on YouTube.
but
is it "dubstep"????
or just noise???
Comments
Dubstep is frequently identified as being heavy on distortion/over synthesized. Not generally true, but it's a perception that's "out there."
ETA: It's really just music that is centered around bass though. Mostly instrumentals, though not always. Your music is really more Grime than Dubstep IMO!
SKRILLEX!!! He is the dubstep master...
Listen here...they are good examples. All dubstep but very diverse..3 of his best tracks..

yeah, heard Gangarang often enough, found the video clip more entertaining with the kiddies robbing the icecream truck before growing up into major crims than the song!
Its Bangerang my dear:)
My son used to produce his own Dubstep/Grime music, He has given it up now he only wanted to get played on a cirtain radio station he got played on a few and finally got played on the one He wanted.
that was in June and I notice his tracks on soundcloud are now all gone.Even at my age still liked some of it.
Sal.
typo actually :red: was thinking boomerang!!!
whatever, I am 50, not my taste in music, my own stuff is not my taste either, just what I can do quickly!
I like guitar driven hard rock,
If you want to put together some royalty-free tracks, you might want to look at ACID (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/acidsoftware?keycode=64506); I believe the demo version doesn't time out. Consider it to be the musical equvalent of DAZ Studio; instead of combining visual elements created by yourself or others, you're combining pre-recorded bits of music. If you check out the product page for each loop library (there's a LOT of them, in many different genres), you can download a few free loops from each of them. I compose 99% of my music from my head, but sometimes I find some loops are just what is needed to jump-start my creativity.

hi Midnight's Mum! %-P
yeah I love that character!
I laugh at all the stereotypical sexy 3D renders out there using typical characters and it is a bit of a scary dig at that!
bet he never intended that though ;-P
recently used it's morph in a mix of others to make a Genesis tigerman too.
:roll:Great disguise Wendy, keep them coming. Minnight mum
Dubstep to me is most identified by the dubstep wobble.
Beardyman is always great when he does a spoof on Dubstep... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4mmjT4P6rw (He's always great, period, actually!)
somewhat related if you interested in making your own eletronic music:
Caustic is a paid android app but it is developed in windows, so developer released the windows version for free. The interface is not the greatest since it really is developed for a touch screen device:

More complex but free as well, although still in development (it says Linux but there is also a windows version):

And talking about dubstep, this is great - just imagine animating something like that:
