data/daz 3d/genesis2/base/genesis2.dsf?????
[data/daz 3d/genesis2/base/genesis2.dsf] so this is the missiing file message I get a lot... so I don't think it ever really existed
--
I have the items in the attached list.
---
So unless there really is a genesis2.dsf (and where to I get it?)
I was just going to copy the genesis2female and change it's name to genesis2 ...
since my figures all load correctly .. the genesis2 isn't used for anything .. except to fill a list
---
but again, does anyone have genesis2.dsf and can I get a copy.
--
and yes sometime in the past a "weird" happened ... my default genesis figure (even after reinstalling genesis base stuff) comes in as Teen Julie... which I can just dial out but some of my male characters express momentary shock at having mamaliaries....

The fact you don't mention anything loading as gray boxes, makes me think you have one or more morph assets that have bad parent data.
Check the log, what you are looking for are the following three warnings
WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(5674): Could not find parent for modifier:
WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(1532): Failed to prepare modifier:
WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\sdksource\fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(5674): Failed to create modifier:
You should see three for each file with bad parent data, at the end of each will be an asset ID something like "PBMMyMorphs", that will give you a starting point for which file(s) to look for.
nothinjg like that .. and the only mention of genesis2 is:|2020-12-02 00:47:02.064 Could not resolve : "/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis2/Base/Genesis2.dsf"
There is no such file.
In one of your Genesis 2 Female-related morph/character files, there is an error that has been done when manually modifying the code.
It may be in a morph file that has been ported over from Genesis 1 or one that has originally been made for G2M.
If the log gives no clues, there is no other way to find the error than using the process of elimination amongst your G2F related morph/character files.
I do find that hard to believe, you see there are only a couple of places in the Genesis.DUF file that can cause that error, and they would leave you with gray boxes rather than the old gray golem.
Now it just so happens I did a search, and found your thread on the same issue from a couple of months back, the log file you posted clearly shows those errors, the problem morph in that log was Sadie's head, if you still have her installed then that's where I would start looking if I was you.
To fix Julie beeing activated for the base figure, (follow each line);
1. Load your base figure (Genesis.duf) to an empty scene.
2. Select "Show Hidden" in the Parameters-Tab, drop down menu (right-click)
3. Zero the figure (Found in Parameters-Tab, drop down menu), use the command "Zero Figure"
4. Memorize the figure (Found in Parameters-Tab, drop down menu), use the command "Memorize Figure"
5. File->Save As->Support Asset->Save Modified Assets
This procedure will zero the default value in the ill-behaving morph/morphs, and while saving DS also shows you a list of the morphs it is changing.
The only thing I can think of, which would prevent this procedure from working, is that you have the morph files for Julie (or whatever is triggering Julie) installed in multiple Content Directories.
-------
As for finding the morph that has reference to "Genesis2.dsf", there is no other option but process of elimination... This will probably take a while, maybe an hour or so...
The morphs for Genesis are stored in "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Morphs\"
Pretty sure the problem is not in any of the files that can be found under "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Morphs\DAZ 3D\" and anyways those files are needed for the base figure to load, but any and all other folders under "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Morphs\" are suspect.
1. With the DS closed, organise the folders in Windows Explorer alphabetically and move half of the folders outside the DS content folders (Create a new TMP folder in the root of one of your drives and move the folders there), remember not to move the folder "DAZ 3D".
2. Open DS, clear the scene and load the Genesis base figure (Genesis.duf)
Does your logfile still complain about the "Genesis2"?
3. Close down DS
4.a.1. If the logfile still complains about the "Genesis2", the problem was not in the folders/files you moved, move them back to "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Morphs\"
Move the other half of the folders outside DS content folders
4.a.2. Open DS, clear the scene and load the Genesis base figure (Genesis.duf)
Does your logfile still complain about the "Genesis2"?
4.a.3 Close down DS
-----
4.b.1. If the Logfile didn't complain about the "Genesis2", the problem can be found in the folder/files you moved, move half of the folders back to "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Morphs\"
4.b.2. Open DS, clear the scene and load the Genesis base figure (Genesis.duf)
Does your logfile complain about the "Genesis2"?
4.b.3 Close down DS
-----
Do you get the idea, how to find the problem file? Keep doing this until you find the file that's causing the complain about the "Genesis2"
Miising file solved
----
finally debugged the issue ... sort of...
---
the genssis folder in the data /daz 3d has a base folder ... so I copied the genesis.dsf renamed to genesis2.dsf... didn't work
--
realized the missing genesie2dsf is in the genesis 2 folder... so stuck in there.. nope
then realized genesis 2 folder has no base folder so put a base folder in with genesis2dsf.. nope
---
finally realized the path was data/daz 3d/genesis2 <<<< not genesis 2
so created a genesis2 folder with a base folder in it with the genesis2dsf (renamed from a genesisdsf... and IT WORKS
---
when I say works it no longer says it can't find the file. It doesn't use it but now it finds a file in a folder with a name it wants
which means my load sequence is not halted by the double set of error messages (one while it's loading and one as a finale to the load)
which means I can load a file and leave the room to get a cuppa or potty break or whatever and come back and have a scene open.
----
second pioture shows dummy file stuck where the program wants to find one.
---
why it was one: looking for an non-existent file and two: looking in a none existent location is beyond me... but looks like the issue has been bypassed.
and the other issue with the merged Julie I disovered that I almost solved it from the last thread.
I did that and created genesisNewduf and it worked
---
but I was still getting the genesis2 thing
so missed the next step I should have taken
renaming the genesis to genesisOld and renaming genesisNew to genesis.
---
which fixed that problem
---
I think I was trying to debug it as one problem
and actually it was two separate problems occuring in the same place and unrelated.
---
I think last september (original thread)
was when gen3 females were blowing up when posed
which I did the old take out half etc until I ended up taking out a bunch of Freak5 stuff to fix that.
---
1st picture genesis and genesis new
2nd picture genesis new is now genesis (time to sit in the corner wearing the Duh Hat for a while.
---
3rd picture is a male cat very relieved that julie no longer has to be removed to make him look right
4th picture is the genesis with the problem and note nothing shows under currently used
5th picture is the genesis with the shaping menu open.
---
thanks to both of you for your help.
the last image is my backup scene and render folder ... still some dups but there are many scenes that were throwing the missing file and adding the julie genesis everytime I tried to go use an old scene.
---
the log still mouns about the sadie head paramameters but the head works because all my cats depend on it. so not worried about that.
1. The procedure that I described doesn't involve giving names to anything or renaming anything if the instructions are followed as they are written.
2. Actually, you didn't fix the problem with "Genesis2"... Now you don't know which morph-file has the reference to "Genesis2.duf", a file that does not exist anywhere and you don't know what the reference is about and what it does now with your solution and/or what it was supposed to do with whatever it was trying to find.
3 The shaping tab that you are showing in your pictures, does not really show everything that has been activated and even if you were in Parameters tab, the "Currently Used" shows only the dials that are not at their default value = If the default value of a dial called "Monster" is 100% instead of 0%, it doesn't show in "Currently Used" even though it has been activated for the character by default.
What you mean is you made a bigger mess of an already buggered data folder.
I did my work on a copy of Genesis... never ever work on an original if you can help it..... just forgot to rename them back the other way. that way if you screw things up worse you can still go back to where you were.
---
the cats were showing julie as on in the currently used items before I fixed the genesid... the genesis shot above from the orginal before zeroing the base genesis shows that it has no julie showing in currently used and yet is on when you go to actor. ... turning off the sliders in the shaping menus would revert the genesis to genesis...
---
I did know that the missing file didn't do anything because it's absece did not change the figure.. so the dummy makes daz happy. (bascally it was looking for a non-esistence file... so I gave it too it.
----
65,000 dsfs .. it's not surpixing there are occasionally issues.. what's surpiising is that there aren't a lot more.
but dont think I want to look for the corrupted one...
---
since day one with my first daz I have never told it were to put it's default librarys etc... and yet a couple years ago .. it had multiples and had pointers in the low or roaming data that pointed at the wrong one.
I solved that by making the two libraries identical to start then worried about the addressing later... as long as it was seeing the data having two sets was okay.. haveing two unmatching sets was not.
