Need Help Transfering Saves and 3rd Party Content over to New Hard Drive

Hi

Back in September I had a hard drive crash.  Thanks to a friend of mine, I have a new digital drive with a fresh install of Windows.  I am also able to access the old drive to extract stuff from it.  That's good, because all my DAZ Studio saved scenes are still on that old drive.

I noticed the last time I migrated DS to another machine that the saved kind of get fouled up.  If the program doesn't recognise the paths for models and files are not perfect, much will be missing from the saved scenes.  The fact that I have a lot of download, plus a lot of third party items makes this an even bigger problem.

Is there any advice on how I can migrate everything over to the new drive without fouling up my saved scenes?

If your saved scenes were saved into a known content folder, then the paths will be relative, so as long as the part of the path inside the content folder is the same DS should find them.  If you saved them outside of a known content folder, then the paths are absolute.

Best practice is to have your first content folder for your saved scenes (and anything else you create or is created in the process of your working with content), so you can just copy that entire content folder to a new computer.  Everything DIM installs goes to a second content folder, so that you can recreate it with DIM and won't lose any of your saved stuff.  I have separate content folders for third-party content, split by stores, but it's not really necessary given the amount of third-party content I have installed.

Simply copy the folder everything is in to a USB drive and then from there, to the new computer.  If its USB 2 it will take a while but if the computer and drive are USB 3 then it should be a lot faster.  Then just tell DS where the library is.  As Mike said, the paths should be relative and everythign should work (in theory)
