Able to Post in Forum when not logged in..

Just had a strange thing happen not sure if it is meant to be intended, but I was replying to a forum thread and my reply posted normal, the thing is that I was not logged in at the time.. Just thought to let the folks know at Daz that there might be an issue..

It looks like for reason I do not understand, when logging out it does log out properly for the store, but it does not log out properly for the forum even though it shows as being logged out..

Update: This looks like a browser issue using the latest version of Firefox and how it handles cookies, after ticking clear all cookies when Firefox closes option seems to have fixed the problem.. But after discovering this makes me wonder how long I have been logged into the forum..

Well, that's still a lot better than being unable to post or even view threads when you are logged in.   I'd not used Firefox in ages, but have no other option if I want to use the forums at all.  Chrome and Edge worked fine before the Storepocalypse, but right now they don't.

...I'm running Chrome and seeing only mildly annoying things like when re-editing a post the window opens in HTML mode (Daz Rawb is aware of this), my product library not sorting from "newest to oldest" (instead it sorts in "A - Z" sequence), and the store search being wonky.

The worst are these intermittent 500 Server Errors which keep occurring randomly (one just occurred when I tried to post this comment).

The only other annoyance is something broke with Tampermonkey because I no longer can get the browser spell check to work in the forums (even though the script is installed and active) and have to keep copying/pasting to Word to scan for typos.  However, this has been going on for a couple months and has nothing to do with the Storepocalypse. (the spell check here in the forums is "ugh" as it gives some really odd suggestions for corrections and I no the dictionary can no longer be updated)

Quite a few issues with the forums atm.

Edge wont display the forums, I get a thin white line where the forum catagories should be.

IE at least lets me see the forums, but boy is the formating for the store all over the place.

not sure if it's just Chrome, but every time I click on the quote in someones post I get taken to a new page with just the comments box in it, I'm trying to make a post with quotes from two people with answers for each issue I'm quoting, probably going to end up doing a double post to get around this crap.

Mmm makes one wonder what software is being used with people having issues.. With even Chrome and Edge not working right, for me I had to get an Firefox addon that makes it easier to claer cookies.. As for me it is clearing cookies, that makes the forum work as is used to and knowing that I am logged out properly..

I am using Chrome which I have always used, I refuse to use any others, and for me the login icon is always blue which means logged in whether I am logged in or not, and the pages are taking forever to load again today.

  • I have frequently, only recently, been able to type in the 'Leave a comment' box and it not respond to the 'Post Comment' button. I then open another tab, log out then log in to the forum, go back to the comment that failed to post, and the button works. This is with Chrome on Windows and Android.

    Regards,

    Richard.

Another problem now is the forum spazzing out with quotes.  Not all of them, but sometimes it gets really weird.

  • It's a good thing they tested this software before they gave it to us to wallow in.cheeky

The other day the store was doing the "You Must Be Logged In To... Blah, Blah, Blah" once I'd attempt to add something to my wishlist... despite the fact that I was logged in already... if I'd attempt to login, it would reject it because I was logged in already... logging out and logging back in did nothing to change that... and neither did clearing my cookies.

    Now I want cookies.

    Actually pie would be better...

    anyway...

Both the store and forums are slow as molasses running uphill for the past couple of days... I don't want to question the wisdom of doing this switchover right before the holidays, but I thought we went through this once before already...

I feel bad for the folks trying to keep things stitched together here who I'm guessing are going to be fighting all sorts of fires here and there for a few more weeks until this all balances out... holidays are the worst time to have to deal with these sort of things.

  • Been having the same issue the last 2 days. Guess we wait for a solution. Ugh!

I feel bad for the loyal Daz customers, e.g. me, who were looking forward to a pleasant shopping experience with our phat loyalty discounts, earned by spending a bunch of money at the Daz Store, and are being denied it because of how badly the store and content delivery changeover was planned and and continues to be executed.

Of course the customer should have a good shopping experience, but I say I feel bad for the folks doing the actual fixing who were probably not party to the decision made as to the timing or general choices involved in the migration to new software or whatever changes are being made.

Lots of times the people who are the actual "boots on the ground" implementors and fixers are not the folks who said "Meaagh... What could go wrong... it'll be cake, let's do it!"

Not to say that how it's going down... it could have been a unanimous decision where everyone had a say and input on the whole affair and everyone was rallying for change because the whole system was a falling apart... Or... it could have been one individual wearing a Viking helmet, a grass skirt who was chugging a bottle of moonshine... or it could've been one of those mind control gerbils that pushed the buttons on this... Who really knows... Sometimes I get the feeling that the people who know, don't know... You never know.

I've been in situations where someone made a decision that was outside of the capabilities of the tools, supplies and technology and thusly I and my cohorts had to work magic to fulfill the goals of a project that should have been "more thoroughly considered within the scope of reality and constraints of time-space".
It's not fun... especially during the holidays... Stuff like having to build photo sets days before the Toy Show in NYC because some nincompoop decided at the last moment they wanted "something cooler"... reworking, making molds for and casting twenty sets of specialized headsets a week before a shuttle launch because some nit figured it wasn't that big a deal... creating from scratch (not including provided hardware) a dozen fully functional and (surgical grade, not static prototypes) endoscopy devices in a week for a medical convention because some dope didn't realize when the convention actually was... Stuff like that sucks...
In each case (and there were many, many more) there was no way that the number of people available to work on the project, the materials on hand or the tools that were available (like that existed), could do some of the stuff required... but we pulled it off.
I couldn't imagine what that would be like in a commercial setting where you had to please the client or boss and their customers in such a fluid and streaming environment as an online store... we had the stress of completing an impossible task, but often we realized it wasn't just us, it was other people's jobs on the line... I wouldn't want the stress of what is probably going on behind the scenes here... I'd liken it to replacing the roof on 24 hour brick and mortar grocery store during an extremely meteorologically unsuitable time during the holiday season in the middle of a mild zombie apocalypse... cause, don't forget there is a pandemic going on which "slightly" complicates things... slightly.

But... you never know... the decision to do this could have been made on Drink As Much Tequila As You Can At Work Day, or it could have been made out of dire necessity.

And there is in all situations someone who gets the raw, splintery end of the poop covered stick... that poor dope who is working as hard as they can, who is working magic, yet because of events, circumstances and choices beyond their control, the appearance of the ongoing operation buries their contributions, efforts and sacrifices, and they get lumped in with the overall bad experiences that others are having... in most cases it's impossible to know exactly what's going on behind the curtain... everyone could be drunk and wearing coconut bras, grass skirts and Viking helmets while partying and passing out out... or they can all be working under super difficult conditions doing the best they can.

I'm not saying customers don't have legitimate grievances and I'm not going to stop making jokes about the problems, nor will I stop pointing them out... It's just I'm pretty sure there are folks who deserve credit for their efforts, and I feel bad that they are probably working hard during a pandemic as the holidays are looming and I know that's rough... So credit where credit is due, to those credit is due to.

These are difficult times... but if it helps, picture a very hungover Dave (a fictional DAZ tech) who is very hairy, wearing a coconut bra, grass skirt and Viking helmet (because DAZ recently made that the official company uniform) working remotely from home while his kids are setting fire to the curtains in the background and the dog is barking at invisible squirrels (Dave shares his tequila with Scruffy), all while trying to figure out why stuff keeps disappearing from people's carts after just having fixed the problems three hours before... If you don't like that I chose a "Dave", then swap "Dave" for "Danielle", but she has to also be really hairy or it won't be both funny and relatable because I'm assuming everyone working from home stopped shaving and possibly showering at this point... The whole scenario is both funny, sad and a little understandable if you look at the big picture and ignore the burning curtains...

I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

You know, there could have been a zombie apocalypse during 2020, and it didn't even make the news.

  • I havent had things disappear from my car...yet. But I can't seem to add anything to my wish list. I'm logged in but it keeps telling me that I have to be logged in to add it. So I check and yes I am logged in. And that' not to mention that for some reason icons at the top of the forum page, only some of them show up. The ones that don't are just boxes and usually of different colors.

If your really want to add something to your wishlist, there is the workaround to put it in the cart and from the cart to your wishlist ...

  • Aaaaaahhhh thanks, would try once.

Just a thought, and definitely not something most people would do... my main email is Gmail, which allows you to set up folders for stuff... I have folders for stuff I know I will forget about, at websites that I know I will also forget about because I never go there (so no point of wishlisting)...

I email the item page link to myself and put it in a folder for stuff like that... "Stuff I wanna buy"

There is also folders like “Interesting Articles”, “Receipts”, “3D Stuff”, “Tutorials”, “Science Stuff”, “Nefarious Plots and Manifestos” etc..

It's not a great solution for 3D content, especially if you are buying lots of stuff soon and obviously it doesn't give you the benefits of updating sale prices and whatnot, but at least you won't forget about the item/items if it's a distant purchase or you are waiting a while until you've got some spare cash to spend on prearranged polygons.

When the store is working properly and all the gremlins are gone, you can just add the items to your working wishlist.

I forgot I do this, so it beats what I did, which was write the links in sharpie all over my body... the ones on my butt are so hard to read a bit smudged and the one on my upper lip makes me look like Snidely Whiplash...

Which I'm okay with... I think I can pull that look off... I'll probably grow one now... I always wanted to have a long handlebar mustache I could twirl the ends of while laughing maniacally... just plain old laughing maniacally doesn't carry the same weight it used to.

EDITED TO ADD-  All my line breaks disappeared so I rewrote this... Well... I got back button icons, so something had to go... See kiddies and future alchemists-  the laws of equivalent exchange in action!
