A Question about Pose Converters

in The Commons
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone is aware of a pose converter that converts poses for Genesis figures to G2, G3 or G8 figures? I am also looking for a pose converter that converts M4 poses to G2M. I know there are lots of pose converters in the store but I can't find one for these particular conversions.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Over in the Freebies forum, there are several discussions by richardandtracy for various free pose converters.
Here's one of those discussions for transferring poses from M4/H4/F4 to/from G3M.

Perhaps he's created a similar pose converter for G2M? I didn't search very far. :)

Thanks leemoon_c43b45a114. This is just what I needed.

I hate to be a miserable so-and-so, but I don't have G2 on my machine, and that's the way I want to keep it. I had hoped to totally skip Gen4-Gen6 on my machine, but it seemed logical after doing scripts for V3/M3 to do V4/M4 as lots of people still use the figures and I have a tiny amount of V4 content. However, I have no content for Gen5/Gen6 at all so I'd only be loading the figures for the script and no other reason (as I actually did for M4 too, but V4 should be accompanied by the bloke for completeness). I need to look up the names of the bones and bends and try it out, so can't adapt my scripts to suit without the figure being on my machine. There is a yawning gulf between 'xRot' and 'X Rot' in the scripting language; The names have to be character and text case perfect.
The scripts I did were really the triumph of brute force and ignorance over finesse - I really don't know much about scripting, so the scripts are very basic. As a result, you could probably try text editing my M4->G3 script. The object names include 'M4' for all bones relating to M4, and 'G3M' for all bones relating to G3M. You would need to change the bone names of the G3M bones and bend names to match the G2M bone names and bend names seen in the scene tree and parameter list. Then when setting the values, you add an offset to make the bone fit the M4 zero pose in the axis being considered - it's one of the reasons my scripts always had the zero pose checking image when I posted them in the freebie forum. Then, provided 10 degrees is the same angle for M4 as it is for G2M you're done. If not, then you need a multiplier on the angle of bend. The only case I found this to be necessary was between V3 and G8F in the arm bends where the elbow and shoulder bends on G8F are approx 110% of the V3 angle. It's not difficult, but there is a lot that needs editing and it needs to be right, so concentration needs to be sustained for hours on end. There are 2100-ish lines of text to check in each script, and up to 40% would need editing.
I'd be more than happy if you or someone else were to do it and distribute the modified code as a freebie.
If it is really too difficult, I could reluctantly do the script, but I'd much prefer someone else to do it, as Gen6 is a generation I have totally skipped.
Regards,
Richard.
Hi richardandtracy,
With respect to your pose transfer scripts for M4, they are exactly what I need as my ultimate goal is to apply the poses to G3M and G8M. So I would like to thank you very much for creating them. I only asked about transfer to G2M because I know that there are scripts that can transfer poses from G2 to G3 and G8 figures.
I was wondering about transfering poses from Genesis to G3 and G8 because there are some pose sets that I would like to transfer but I am not aware of any scripts or products that can do that.
I guess my next questions would be about how to transfer K4 morphs to G3 and G8 figures.
There is this free script for converting poses between Genesis, G2, G3, and G8: https://www.sharecg.com/v/89846/browse/8/Script/Daz3d-Pose-Converter-Standalone
Thanks Charlie Judge.

nabob21,
sorry, don't have K4 on my machine to check if it'll work. However, my M4 script seemed to work with Hiro (H4), and The Freak (F4), and the V4 script coped with Aiko (A4), so I suspect the setup of K4 will match either the male or female figure (try female first, as females are usually more popular), and could probably work.
My suggestion would be to have a clean/empty scene with just the source and destination figures and run the script to see. It may throw an error if any of the bone/bend names are different (there are differences between V4 and M4 which is why I did different scripts), but with any luck it won't. If it does work, maybe you could let us know, and I'll update the script documentation and titles to reflect that. I only added Hiro and The Freak to the male script documentation after another user discovered it for me - I never got those figures before I took a 12 year break from DS. I did, however have A4 and could test that.
Regards,
Richard
Thanks richardandtracy. I'll give it a try.
