Editing a thread seems to be broken

Is this something new? I tried editing a thread and none of the controls showed up. While you can edit a post, you can't do anything like add an image. I had to manually add formatting with html code in a post because the text controls were missing.

ETA: Weird. Seems to only happen with some posts. I could edit this one and the controls were there. The controls are missing when I try to edit a post in the Art Studio. Not sure if it's only the Art Studio or if it's an intermittent problem.

Noticed it too when editing any post. The editor disappears and you're left with raw html to deal with. No toolbars, nothing.

Also noticed that when I reply to a post, it used to start on a new line under the quoted text. Now, you have to add the html code for a blank paragraph. Unless I'm missing something.

Also, when I reply (quote) I'm locked into that post. Can't scroll to other posts until I finish the reply.

Also can't seem to multi-quote anymore, as it brings you to a new page to reply rather than dropping to the bottom.

These have both been reported over the weekend,

    ,

it appears that you only get the wysiwyg text tools in the first post in a thread

Quoting is going really weird on some threads so use it with care.

I guess this is happening as they try to fix something else? But was anything else broken in the forums? We got rid of the boxes, so all was well, wasn't it?

In WYSIWYG mode with the text cursor in the reply box if you hover the mouse over the bottom of the quote you should see a dotted line with a red return symbol at the right - click the symbol to break out of the quote.

I tried this and had to hover over the left hand side of the post to get the red arrow to appear

Thanks! It was on the right side for me. Maybe different across the pond? smiley

But.. the real question is:- Are they getting fixed faster than they're breaking? My subjective view is 'No' or 'Probably not', and that is disconcerting. Thus far I've been fortunate in avoiding the worst store issues, but I am being increasingly affected by forum oddities, and by the implications of previous posts in this thread, I'm not alone.

I understood that the store software was to be updated. I can't remember seeing something similar about the forum, so it leads to concerns that the changes are either unplanned (why!?) accidental (someone is careless and needs a rocket) or of more concern: external to DAZ. All possibilities are worrying, particularly the last.

    Regards,

    Richard

while I wholeheartedly agree this website is having major issues I am not in any position to apportion  blame, I am guessing there could be many factors involved not necessarily just the competence of the staff implimenting it.

+1. Don't use personal attacks. It's in the forum rules too.

  • So while we wait for this matter to be fixed, here is the code to get the images displayed:

<p><img alt="" src="PUT THE IMAGE URL STRING IN HERE AND ADJUST HEIGHT AND WIDTH AS REQUIRED" style="height:700px; width:700px" /></p>

  • I'm mostly hoping all the store's and forum's "wrinkles" will be ironed out sooner instead of later. wink

Not only for my own convenience, but also for the "behind the scenes" people. So everybody, on both "sides of the screen" can enjoy this holiday season. yes

Thanks for the information about the arrow symbol in a lower corner of a quote box. That helps! smiley

Here's hoping we can get the usual edit assists again, soon-ish. I'm nowhere close to "fluent" in html. I have some "cheat sheets" that help, so I can sort of get by. It's just ... awkward. blush

Anywho, here's hoping there will be truly happy holidays for everyone. After this year, methinks we all need a break! wink

Pointing out that the forum has been having an increasing number of problems is not a personal attack or seeking to blame anyone. It is a valid concern for those who use the forum to glean advice and information. I mentioned the fact that the forum often displays a "This Site is Not Secure" message which was dismissed as being a problem with third partt sites such as YouTube. However, I use other forums which have embedded YouTube videos without ever seeing such a warning.

Over the past few days I've had problems replying, quoting and opening threads - I get unable-to-connect errors frequently now.I'm not blaming anyone but I think that DAZ should consider a different forum platform. A freeware forum where I am a member has fewer problems and better features. I guess the issue with moving the platform, however, would be figuring out how to transfer the archive of messages. Nevertheless, it would not be the first time that DAZ has moved to another forum software.
