Does anyone have any experience with file organizing software?

Hi folks!

As my runtime continues to grow I've quickly discovered that it often takes longer to find the content In my library than it does to actually create what I set out to in the first place. Other times I buy something or spend forever searching for a free alternative when I already have an item that would have worked perfectly in my runtime. A few times I've even lost the motivation to work on a project from what often end up being an endless scavenger hunt.

Part of my problem is that my computer crashed (thankfully I could feel it coming and everything was recently backed up) about a month ago, so I've temporarily taken over my husband's. Now I have the hard drive that my computer was backed up to that includes my recent content acquisitions, an external hard drive that I had started migrating some less often used content to in an attempt to tidy things up, in addition to a new folder on my husband's computer. I'd love to be able to cross reference what's available and where I could find it without having all the files loaded on my computer at once. Does anyone know of any such software, or better yet a recommendation? I don't mind paying for it, but would love if the software offered a free trial to make sure it works the way I need it to before purchasing. I'd also prefer a visual catalogue that would allow me to import thumbnails, if that's possible.

I've considered this http://vvvapp.sourceforge.net. I've also, considered this http://www.whereisit-soft.com. Has anyone tried either, or can you recommend an alternate, or am I looking in the wrong direction entirely?

Thanks in advance!

You could take a look at WinCatalog, it's pretty cool.

    http://wincatalog.com

Currently on sale btw (3 days left).

The best thing IMO however is to have all your content files on one drive, with one or more backups. Big harddrives don't cost much these days.

I used WinCatalog a few years ago, when it only ran on XP. Good to see the new version supports Win7 and 8.

Another option specifically for DS/Poser/etc. content is PzDB, I like that it can both do a good job automatically categorizing and then let you modify that if needed. Haven't used it in a few years; nowadays I just use Categories in DS and DIM.

I highly recommend using P3DO Explorer for DAZ Studio or Poser

    http://www.senosoft.com/download.php

You will need the PRPC plugin for DAZ Studio as well - http://www.pontari.com/Products/DazStudio/PRPC/

These are free. I dont recall if those will load DAZ content in DS or just Poser content.

Thanks for the suggestion! Where do I find PzDB?
