Thanks so much to Bryan Steagall and performing niece for doing this. I think it turned out excellent for something coming out of Daz Studio and (apparently) an iPhone. First time I see my stuff animated too, so maybe I'm a little too excited laugh

Bryan says:

I found this model from BlueJaunte that I just had to try an animate (https://www.daz3d.com/macey-and-chani-hd-with-hd-expression-for-genesis-8-female).  The daz studio render was just too good to pass up.  I asked my niece to capture a little video with her iphone and processed it through Dynamixyz Performer, and animated in Motionbuilder

It was my pleasure BlueJaunte, Macey, as all your characters, is excellent.  I particularly liked the quality of the textures

Can you you explain in a bit more detail how this was made? This is your own software that makes animations out of recorded video?
  • HI BlueJaunte

Its a commercial product called Performer, by Dynamixyz.  It is a professional facial motion capture package used in many, many video games, movies, etc  Normally it is used in conjunction with a Head Mounted Camera (like the ones you see in "making of's" for movies and games.  It also lets you produce facial mocap from videos from any source, whether it be a phone, static camera o webcam.  It is not cheap (at the least expensive, for indie content producers, it is 2k per year).

It is compatible with all the major 3d packages (maya, motionbuilder, 3ds Max, cinema4d) and with Unreal and Unity.  In this case I used motionbuilder to retarget onto Macey (that was exported via fbx), using an animation rig that I created for Gen3 to Gen8 characters.  Saved the file and re-imported into Studio, where I saved it as an animated pose, then rendered.
