Missing Smart Pane thumbnails

Recently, there have been 4-5 products that are missing thumbnails among the new content in the DAZ Shop.

Is there no quality control going on anymore at DAZ?

I've had products with missing poses because of meta data issues too.

Everything is put on a back burner because they are so busy.

But what is the point of the Smart Content pane if all you see is a dashed line box?

I reported Yuseff Hair and Beard missing a thumbnail 6 months ago. They said they would send it to the "tech dept" when I contacted the tech dept. It's still missing the image.

I know it's just cosmetic in the case of the Smart Content pane, but it's more and more products. And if too many are missing it's harder to find stuff visually.

Now it's this thumbnail missing (attached) which I just purchased today.

Really getting disappointed and trying not to ... sad

Update: I logged into DAZ Studio and the metadata updated. Now I see the thumbnail for On a Hunt Poses.

But Just Sit Poses is still missing a thumbnail. I don't have the energy to report this stuff. So I'm just going to live with it.

This is probably gonna be one that you're on your own to fix, at least if you want it done quickly. Hopefully it's one of the easier incarnations of the problem. First step is to look in Runtime/Support and make sure that product actually has a thumbnail saved for it. I've found myself with lots of products that don't, both new and old. If it does not have one, save one yourself. Whatever image you want, just give it the same name that the .dsx and .dsa support files have. Only difference should be that your thumbnail ends in either .jpg or .png. This has solved something like 99% of my issues with missing thumbnails.

We had a thread about this recently that covered a couple other reasons as well: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/6284866/#Comment_6284866

Mine was a relatively rare but infuriating thing where uncommon punctation that Studio doesn't care for, or that doesn't match up with the references in the .dsx, gets used and breaks everything. In my case it was the use of the en dash in place of a hyphen, and replacing all instances of it in both filenames and the .dsx with something else fixed the issue.

NorthOf45 tracked down some of the reasons why the Tepes Outfit is the way it is, the biggest (but not only) one being that the filename that the .dsx refers to is not the actual, correct name of the file. It still took a few more steps after fixing that before it worked again.

I've given up reporting things like this, they'll likely never get dealt with. DAZ won't support older products that are sold as whole and delivered as incomplete, claiming age as a reason (but they see nothing wrong with charging high prices for content they know isn't whole); thumbnails probably won't hit their radar. I do my best, without expending too much effort, to fix the problem. Usually that's by adding my own thumbnail, while sometimes it takes a rummage through the .dsx to look at what's being asked for and comparing it with what actually exists. Or I spend a few minutes assigning compatibilities to outfits, poses, etc. that arrived without them.

If I can't sort it out quickly, I just return things. I paid for a complete product and got a broken one instead. Doesn't matter how little it was broken, it was broken.

Thank you for this valuable information.

I'm going to take a look at the .dsx file when I get a chance to see if I can fix it.

I've given up reporting these issues too.

I have filed a ticket regarding the missing thumbnail for the just sit poses two months ago. No feedback on that, ticket is still open.

Hopefully there's something in there that'll help your situation, I imagine it's just scratching the surface of why things go wrong. For me it's at least mostly been thumbnails that are truly missing, irritating but easy enough to deal with (acquire through DIM, rename, pop into Runtime/Support, and refresh Smart Content).

NorthOf45 ended up having to do more than just reimport metadata, so I'd take a particular look at their process for getting things sorted out if you do find an inconsistency in the .dsx, fix it, and then it still doesn't work. I wish I could look into this one myself, because I'm terribly curious about the whole thing, but unless there's a crazy deep sale I'm not paying DAZ so that I can look into and fix their mistakes for them.

    Good to know. Thanks.

So I looked and the only two products I have that are missing thumbnails now are:

    Just Sit Poses

    Yuseff Hair Beard
