Daz Studio on its own drive?

Is there a way to make Daz Studio entirely independent of the boot drive. I have an internal SATA SSD I would like to move everything in Studio over to because Studio is determined to store information in various parts of my drive, and multiple runtimes are probably not the way to go.

Has anyone done this successfully? If so how? thanks.

Short of a directory junction I don't think there's a way to move the settings out of the AppData folder, and of coruse therea re Registry settings, but all of the bulky stuff can be moved - mostly through Content Directory Manager from the Content tab of Preferences, but the temp folder is set on the main tab of Preferences and the database (Content Cluster) location is on the CMS tab (actually, I was forgetting - it is now in Content Directory manager). If you use the render Library when saving that will be in your Documents folder, so if you haven't moved that off C: you will need to open the render Library Directory Manager from the Render Library pane's option menu.

The way you describe your urge to move radically DS makes me think if you are trying to hide some NSFW scenes or characters. cheeky

I have DS installed on my C:/ and 4 Runtimes Allocated on D:/ dunno if that resolves your question, maybe not.

and about multiple Runtimes...wrong, IS THE BEST way to do!, well if you have more than 10 years using of course and more than 1TB in Content Library Assets.

Not just this, but also due to cms being easy to break(there goes 6 months of organization), the disaster area that is the content library(why can't texture sets be put in the materials library instead of some random library?), assets conflicting with each other producing some really nasty results with the genesis series(i split the data folders into seperate folders and map in CDM as needed), the ability to only backup the ds files and not need to backup an entire system, etc, etc.

at least the finally got rid of the "you are attempting to map over 10 directories" warning a few years ago.

Use the export User Data command in Content DB Maintenance.

Not sure what you mean here - most materials for specific items go in a sub-folder of the main item

Again, not sure what you mean - if you are wanting to back up your custom content then put it in a different content directory (that is, in part, why the default DIM destination is different from the default save destination). The asset-ave options dialogue allows you to specify the content directory to use at the top.

at least the finally got rid of the "you are attempting to map over 10 directories" warning a few years ago.

Next time I buy a 2TB SSD drive I am uninstalling all my DAZ content in "Content Library" with DIM and renaming what's left to "Content Library 3rd" and having 2 separate runtimes. Although I realize of course that some of the DIM Installers are also not adhering to a sensibly standardized content layout in the "Content Library" either at least my DAZ content and the freebie, Hivewire, and Renderosity content will have it's own old runtime. Well, also maybe some of those ancient '*.exe' installer files might be in the "Content Library 3rd" we used to get before 2010 that take an eternity to install their content.

  • I have my DS program on C:\. The content folder is on D:\ and the DIM files on E:\. C: is an SD OF 1TB. Since the content folder takes up the bulk of the space I moved it to D:. E: is an external HDD. I set it up this way when I built this new system last month. If the SSD goes down or over crowded I won't have to worry about DS content running out of space. If the whole system goes down, I'll still have all of my assets.
