DIM and Bryce

RoygeeRoygee Posts: 2,247

Hi all :)

After doing a fresh install of Bryce, I found to my cost that DIM doesn't do Bryce very well. I then did another fresh install, only using DIM to download, then installed the Bryce components manually.

All is working well - now how do I get the Bryce components out of the "Ready to install" queue, so I can use DIM to download and automatically install other Daz content, without having to remember not to select them?

I'm sure there used to be a "Hide" option, which I now can't find. The only other option seems to be "Delete packages" - will that delete from the queue, or from the DIM download folder, or from the installed content?

Any help much appreciated :)

Right click on the item in the Ready to Download tab, and select Hide Package(s). You can view any hidden packages again by using the 'Display Hidden' option at the top of the interface.

For the Ready to Install tab, there is no Show Hidden option, so I don't believe you could ever hide them. If you have items in the Ready to Install tab, then as far as DIM is concerned, they are not installed yet, so I don't believe that it will try to uninstall them from your HDD.

They may pop up again in the Ready to Download tab, then you can use the Hide option.

Hide is available only in the ready to Download tab, which wil of course stop you from getting update notifications. You could set a fake Bryce path in the Applications tab in preferences, install to that move the entry to the Installed tab (and then delete the unwanted files from the fake Bryce path). I would definitely advise reporting any issues you are having installing Bryce content with DIM.

Thank you, Jimmy - that worked :)

@Richard - I'm not too concerned about missing Bryce updates - it's highly unlikely that there will be any in the foreseeable future. If there are, word will spread like wildfire in the Bryce community :)

The problems with DIM are well known in the Bryce community - too myriad to mention. Basically, the Bryce files setup is just too complex. I doubt whether Daz would be concerned enough about them to take any action.

Thanks for the suggested procedure, though :)
