My first ever try of a clothing piece finally done and fit to Genesis!

Hi to all,

I finally managed to complete a clothing piece (cyclist style jersey) from a resource kit for Genesis by Ghastly which is available for free at ShareCG/Rendo freestuff. All of this were made possible with the tremendous help and advice from Catherine (Patience55) at this thread in Hexagon (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45212/) and help from Wendy (Wilmap) on clothing creation, plus a mini-tut from Dany Chacornac on how to get the item to finally fit Genesis in DS. I have struggled with the fitting part but eventually cracked it! :-)

Catherine is amazed that I have done this without Genesis .obj loaded in Hexagon (for making the item directly on him) and only worked on the basic mesh but it worked. I think it's because the resource kit base was done with Genesis already beforehand by Ghastly. I have learned now (1) how to cut a premade mesh to form other clothing, (2) how to use the Transfer Utility in DS for final fitting and (3) how to get rid of bad marks with the 'Convert to SubD'. When I have tested the item the 1st time I thought there was something wrong with the front seam line cut but Wendy directed me to SubD and that sorted out the bad areas. What a relief that the cut was ok!! Thanks again!

This is not major but still something I have learned to do! Next step will be for how to add morphs to the jersey to close/open it and to add textures. I have no idea of how to do either these and needs help please! Morphs for wind blowing on the jersey will also be nice, if possible. Do one use the parameters for this? :smirk:

The renders was done quickly in Bryce 7 for testing and I have used a Bryce mat to add some texture to the item. Another thing I have done today on trying it in Bryce was to send fully clothed Genesis via DS bridge ... and what a pleasant surprise I got to see Genesis has kept his textures!!! The way I used to work previously by saving all as .obj and then import to Bryce, only the clothing were textured in Bryce but had a 'grey' tone Genesis in the Bryce scene. So, this mean the bridge is the way to work! :)

Pretty good for your first run. The top looks great on him, and bends nice and smoothly. I'll endeavour to answer your query, though if I may be bold to also offer a few suggestions...

Firstly, while SubD may iron out some of the 'bumps' it doesn't actually fix the issue, it merely hides it. This will be more noticed when you apply morphs to affected areas, since those may deform in unanticipated ways, and not even SubD can fix that. It's good to get into the habit of fixing underlying issues where you can to minimize the effect of any such morphs later on in the pipeline.

To create a morph, you'll need one of two things. Either a good working knowledge of the DForm tool in Daz Studio, or a modeler. The latter gives you superior control over the final morph, but it also requires a bit more in-depth knowledge. The DForm tool is great for simple bends and the like, but isn't very useful for fine touches without using literally dozens of small DForms per morph.

If you choose the DForm route, export the deformed mesh (without fitting to Genesis!) and ensure that SubD is disabled (set it to 0 subdivisions). Export it as an OBJ and then re-import the OBJ as a morph target for the shirt using Morph Loader Pro after removing the DForms or reloading the original top.

There are many ways of doing things.

Wendy brought to our attention [have no idea where that thread is atm] that one can make the clothing, using the D-formers, spawn the morphs, THEN save the clothing and ALL the morphs will automatically be saved too. Great time saver if one knows all which morphs are to be made at time of initial clothing creation. Lots to learn Laura, and the fun thing in the forums is the ability to gather all kinds of ideas, try the ones you want to and skip what is not required at this point in time.

One can also use "fit to" Genesis for the created/saved clothing item, select Genesis and send it over the bridge to Hexagon.
Keep D/S open. Select now the clothing item.
In Hexagon, freeze Genesis, morph the clothing, unfreeze Genesis and hide/delete it.
With the clothing item selected send it back over the bridge to D/S and make the morph.
If the item is "posed" along with the figure and/or morphed with the figure, "reverse shape" when saving the morph.
If the morph works as expected, zero the morph and save the morph. [File > Save As > Support Asset....]

For all who want to see a bunch of pictures, I do have some tutorials over in my DA Gallery which may be of help or amusement to some.

Thank you Catherine, I will go and have a look at it. In fact, I have downloaded almost all of your tutorials! Thank you again for all your help and advice! :-)
