Shaders not looking right / not working
Hi everyone,
Very new Daz user here, only a couple of days of use - working at understanding the interface and basic controls etc. I've been watching youtube tutorials and such to help but I keep coming up against this one issue that I'd really love help with if possible! Of course I'm doing something wrong (haha), it would be amazing if someone might be able to explain exactly what might be happening :)
I recently purchased some shaders from the Daz shop, just to see how they work etc.
The first lot I purchased seemed to work great, so I assumed all was good to go ahead and grab some others, however this second lot doesn't seem to be working as intended, I'm far too new to know why sadly! I've attached some screenshots of the shader I've clicked on and the end result.
Regardless of the shader style loaded, the figure ends up this colour-less metallic style. I've made sure that I have the figure selected in scene as well as selected under the surfaces tab > editor, and then I go ahead and select a shader...but odd things are happening. Have I perhaps altered some settings (or need to, for certain shaders?)
I noticed this actually happens quite a bit with some other shaders that come Daz, sometimes they don't show the intended result rather the figures turns a weird colour or nothing at all happens etc. I was under the impression a shader can work on any figure/object (and it's materials that can't). Is there a whole bunch of settings I'm perhaps not aware of yet that one needs to tweak to help get the intended result?
If I contiually sift throguh different shaders is this causing some sort of "pile-on" effect (kinda like a new layer in photoshop obstucting the others)?
*though when testing these I just started with a new baisc model, just to see what they look like, so the model has no prior history (I'm unsure if that's a thing, or if it matters).
Any advice on getting these shaders to work would be amazing! Thank you so much!

With shaders, there's a catch... Which figure are you using?
Genesis 1 and 2 at least load with 3DL shader as default and I think so does the base figure of Genesis 3, Genesis 8 on the other hand loads with default Iray shader.
In general, the shader you are applying must match the one the surface is already using, or the result will not be what you expect, if there is any change at all.
The older shaders are usually 3DL and if the product page does not mention the product having "Daz Studio Iray Shader Presets (.DUF)", it is most likely just 3DL
I can't tell which products those are drom, but it's possible from the names that they are intended as modifiers ofr a base material already applied. With many shader sets it's best to right-click on the file and select Show Asset In ans then, depending on instalaltion method, Virtual Folder or Mapped Directory; when you see the files as they are arranged on disc it may be clearer if they need to be applied in a sequence.
That depends - most shader presets will apply the correct shader as well as adjusting settings, though as noted above there may be an order (apply the abse, then adjust various factors).
What shaders are you using?
Searching for the names of the shaders came up with;
This is 3DL

^ It was my guess that they're using 3DL shaders with IRAY, but I wanted to ask first.
Nicky, if you're rendering with IRAY you have to make sure you're using IRAY shaders. (There's a 30 day return policy, FYI!)
