I'm picking up my RTX 3090 tomorrow... wish me luck O_O

So... turns out, I was too impatient to wait another X months for the 3080ti, so I pulled the trigger on a Zotac 3090 (yeah I know, not the best one, but at least it has a decent heatsink). Darn it, It was the ONLY 3090 I was able to find close to the MSRP price point, although i still overpaid like ~150 bucks.

So.. wish me luck I won't have to RMA it *scared*

cheers!

Huge markup but not as big a markup as I've seen outside of box retail channels. Good luck.

I thought so too... Until I seen the prices on other models. MSI Gaming X trio in my country goes for $2650 (in stores!!!) so I consider myself quite lucky... :P

  • You will love it! I picked up an Alienware computer last month with the 3090 and it has made Daz so much more easier and enjoyable. Good luck!

    Thanks, well that's what I'm hoping for ^^ I'm currently on a 1080ti.

That's the card I had before too!

Truth to be told, It's still a decent piece of GPU, but not really suited for 4K and above. I recently got into making my own interior HDR maps and rendering a 360 enviroment in 8-10K is really a massive pain on a 1080ti :D Just too slow... Can I ask, what model of 3090 exactly do you have? How are the temperatures under 100% load when rendering?

  • Oh yeah, I love my 1080 as well, but I do animation so what was taking 3 minutes to render to 80% completion with the GTX is taking 30 seconds to get to 95% with the 3090. If I was just doing stills, I don't know if I would have switched just yet. And yeah, I can see making 10K HDR maps being a pain!

All I know about the model I have is what's written on my invoice from Dell: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X  I've never checked the temperatures, but since my frames never render more than a minute, minute and a half, most of the time it's 30 seconds, I rarely even hear the fans moving. If I let something go longer than a minute and a half, like if I don't render in layers and try to do a frame with characters and an environment, then I'll hear the fan start up, but otherwise I never even know it's working. I have yet to see more than 9% being used in my task manager if that helps.

I have a 1080ti as well. I can hardly wait to upgrade to a card that has 24GB of memory and a fast GPU. It probably won't be anytime soon but maybe when 4000 generation is released, the 3000 will be priced way better and still work great with Iray. laugh

Sadly, I dobut it.... Look at 20xx cards now. 2080ti is still like $1000 in my country...

  • Just wanted to report, it arrived.

At longer renders the ZOTAC RTX 3090 Gaming Trinity sits at 70c, achieving an average core clock of 1920Mhz, maximum power target registered 102%.

The Iray Benchmark Scene was completed in 1 minutes, 40 seconds.

God this thing is a beast.

Yay, glad it arrived for you.  I upgraded last year and feel like I am already behind.  I am excited to hear about improvements.  Keep us posted about differences that you notice.

If you bought a 20x0 card last year, you're probably still ahead of most Daz users.  I'm still happy with mine, and at this point, will probably skip the 30x0 series.  With BTC at USD 21k, I don't expect those to become a lot cheaper anytime soon.

First notable difference (apart from render times OFC) is the amount of time that's needed between pushing the render button and actually seeing the first iteration being drawn.

20xx series is still superb btw, but frankly I picked up the 3090 for it's gargantuan 24 GB vram. It's a Titan card for half the price.

Hello!! I am about to order a Zotac graphic card RTX 3090, same as yours and I wanted to ask how did it work until now? Are you happy with it? Are the renders fast?. I have an 1080 TI now, as you did before, and I am curious about the difference.

    Thank you very much!!

AIBs have been going over the MSRP, $150 is pretty good as others have been much higher; congrats on the acquisition!
