Ayaan Hair not showing up in Iray

I recently got this hair product: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-ayaan-hair-for-genesis-8-females

And obviously others have successfully used it in their renders, but it does not show up in mine. In the viewport (texture shaded mode) everything looks fine, but in Iray (referring to both - viewport preview and render) only the Ayaan Hair Base is shown without the actual hair. I have tried turning on "Preview PR Hairs" (Generate PS Hairs and Generate PR Hairs were already on), I also raised the Tesselation sides to 2 and higher values. None of this has had any effect. I can run the dForce simulation and it simulates fine, but that does me no good either. Finally in case something else in my scene was causing this issue, I created a new one with just the G8F base character + hair. Still no hair in the Iray render.

I must be missing something here. Any ideas?

  • Perhaps you can post a picture of what actually renders.  I just added the hair and made no adjustments at all and it renders fine,  I used version 4.11

It renders fine.  The main part of the hair doesn't show in the viewport nor is it selectable.  All that can be seen/selected in the viewport is the skullcap.

Update - texture shaded works properly but the iRay doesn't.  I normally use texture shaded (somehow my settings got goobered) so I'm fine, but I don't see it if I switch to the iRay preview mode.  I'm not sure if simulated hair normally shows or not in the iRay preview.  My hair settings match the ones posted.

And you have the Generate PR hairs on, and the tesselation is greater than 2 for the actual hair?

I am using DS 4.14.0.10. And here are images of my viewport, parameters, and the actual render. The initial values for Viewport Line Tessellation SIdes and Render Line Tessellation SIdes were 0 and 1 repsectively. I raised them to 2 and 3.

The one significant difference I see is that I am lacking the "Hair Mesh Association" parameter altogether.

I just found out that it does render fine with the current public beta (4.14.1.38). But I would still like to be able to render this in my "regular" DS version. Does anyone have the same problem with 4.14.0.10?

    It renders fine in 4.15.
Still can't see it in Iray preview tho. frown

Edit : Scratch that, fixed it at Tessellation Sides 2 and Render Line Tessellation Sides 3. smiley

After this I still occassionally had renders with missing hair, but now I think I have finally figured it out. The tool selection seems to cause this. With the Geometry Editor or Node Weight Map Brush active certain types of hair (strand-based?) will not show in the render.
