HELP! I lost my top tool bar

I'm not sure what I did but I no longer see my top tool bar. The default one with the undo button. How do I get it back?

Comments

  • Window>Workspace>Customise, in the Activities tab expand the current activity, then Toolbars, and you will see all the currently defined  toolbars - turn the one you want back on by right-click>Enable Toolbar

  • This is what I see Window>Workspace and then what? I see no customize and no activities tab

  • Try selecting another layout ... then select the layout you prefer. That should get everything set up correctly again.

  • But then I'll lose all my custom settings and have to re-set them? Isnt there a sinple on/off switch to bring the tool bar back?

  • you can back it up if it is so special cheeky

  • Well after you have set it all up again, save the layout for next time. Periodically the workspace needs to get a jump start.

If you still have the status bar at the bottom, try right-clicking on it and turn on the tools option.

F3 should bring out the Customize window

  • Thank you. That did the trick and I'll save it for the future

I think you need to use Update and Mege Menus (having first saved your layout) as you will be missing quite a lot of things - Customise has been in the Window>Workspace menu for a long time, it started in the Edit menu and I suspect yours is still there.

Thanks for this Fix I had the same problem and was going crazy trying to track it down!

Drogo, thanks for your thread. Mine also disappeared and the "Customized" selection is also gone. I hope F3 works. I'm trying everything in this thread. On a personal note; are you as exhauted as I am by the snide comments by people who think they are "Too cool for school?"

I usually assume someone is making a joke that fell flat, was a bad pun or they were making a satirical comment on the situation before I assume they were being snide or being a jerk... especially since the comments here are very international and even when someone speaks perfect English, stuff might not track the way they meant it... plus sometimes the people commenting have known each other on these forums for years and it could be a reference to something they said previously or is an inside joke...

True that sometimes people are snide... I get that sometimes people can be a little touchy about negative comments towards products or artists they like and make snide comments, but the majority of "not to the point, 100% serious" comments seen in the forums are usually more satirical than "snide".... with people making light of the problem (often long running problems) and are not directed at the person who asked the question, but at the situation...

I've lost track of how many threads keep showing up with the same annoying little problems that continue to exist... and occasionally you'll see another thread about such a reoccurring problem... Forumite A may start the thread, and at some point Forumite B answers the question, and several posts later Forumite W will make a satirical comment to Forumite G who commented several posts earlier, but without knowing that W and G have known each other for years or have commented helpfully on the same topic for ages, a silly or dumb joke might sound like a dig against A or B, when it's actually directed at the problem not a person...

A lot is dark humor... almost "gallows humor"... because it's so frustrating troubleshooting problems or figuring stuff out without a dedicated source of information like a manual and/or something like a Frequently Asked Questions section, which god forbid should exist, considering how many persistent FAQs there are... it's really hard not to try and make a joke out of a dumb situation that's unnecessarily dumb... the dumb not coming from the OP, but the software or gremlins in the machine...

The problem the Original Poster asked about has happened to me at least once and I've had similar things like that occur... if it happens once every few years there is a good chance you'll forget and be forced to look it up... and given the craptastic nature of the forum search (when there is a search bar), and often the problematic issue of "what the hell to define the problem as" so as to properly search for it using Google, you are probably going to have to re-ask the question... possibly over and over... plus people will often (with good intentions) provide a link to an older thread about that question that fizzled out without actually solving the problem in any definitive way... often because the OP never responded and there is no friggin' way of knowing which answer is correct or if any were... (Pro Tip To New Question Askers: If someone solves your problem... please say "Thanks StinkyJoe657, that solved my problem", so others will know which solution worked... if not to be polite, for future generations looking up the problem which will surely still exist)...

But... yeah... there is lots of need for humor in situations with frustrations aplenty, especially satirical humor directed at the problem or workarounds to things that shouldn't require workarounds.

So if anyone reading this wants to take offense to anything I just said, feel free to be enraged or upset... or... just take it as I meant it... an alternative possibility of other people's comments that are meant to alleviate stress, but fell flat or could be misinterpreted.

    Cheers, beers and happiness Y'all.
