The Buccaneer's New Fancy Sea Captain's coat

Just started a new piece of clothing, a coat for my character, José Carlos Mirandez, The Buccaneer. There are none that I could find that were even remotely similar, or compatible with Genesis (the closest I found was for Hiro 3, and that had the opening on the wrong side). I've got pretty much all of the modeling itself done, including the trim (which won't be welded on this time) and buttons, though I might add a seam line to the shoulders and sides, I haven't decided yet, and not really sure the best way to pull it off.

I'm also going to have to make his sword belt and mask, and I'm not sure what to do about the opera cloak, that's waaaaay beyond my skill.

Here's what I have so far:

    This looks really impressive.
You really know your way around Hex.
Please keep us updated on your progress...

I use two ways to create seams. The result are shown in the picture.
    -
The one on the left is to take the centerline and use the edge tool to extract to two lines. Then extrude the faces, and then shape them, and bevel the edges.
    -
The one on the right is to take the centerline and extrude around, just a tiny bit. Then take the centerline and pull it inwards. Then bevel the edges and then do the final shaping.

A lot of work, I know. Specially if the mesh is high-poly....
    -
What I have discovered as well, is that the lines that I have marked, is important.
I ad them last. Without them you can get some strange bending in the mesh.

This will add a lot of polys, but it might help when you are texturing. You don't have to paint in the seams on the texturemaps.

Well, here's the first real test fit of the coat on my character posed. It definitely needs a bit more tweaking to deal with poke through without having to resort to scaling up various parts of the torso.

That is really well done - congratulations:)

You won't have any problem dealing with the pokethrough.

Fantastic job! I would pay for something like this...have you thought about submitting it to daz?

I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet.

Fair enough...I look forward to seeing where you take this.
