Extended License Fees
Just a thought… I’m sure it’s been brought up before but is there any way we can do away with this tiered licensing scheme? I’ve recently started working on some indie games and thought it may be nice to port some of my Daz work over to Unreal. So, I’ve started the process of making sure I have all the requisite licenses to use the products the way I intend to use them. Short of cheating my own game and using my characters only as static render cutscenes in an otherwise interactive game, I went back to start to see what it would take to add the right licenses. 1 character could be 20+ different licenses depending on how they were assembled, many times at a cost that is greater than the asset itself. If you consider the base character, hair, nails (often taken from other base characters or standalone kits), shoes, socks, pants, shirt, glasses, earrings, change of clothes? that’s 1-6 more new licenses, more than 1 hairstyle? More than 1 hair asset to get the hair look you want? You can see it adds up pretty quickly and we are only talking about 1 character.
Why not just include all licensing in the base price? I’d much rather just pay one price knowing that I get full use of the asset than worry about whether I double checked each of the thousands of assets I already own to be sure they are usable at all.
By way of comparison, if you go to the UE asset store (UEA) you can get fully geared characters with full interactive licenses for free. That’s Base+ outfit + hair + fully interactive license, free. Example: https://unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/profile/Epic+Games?count=20&sortBy=effectiveDate&sortDir=DESC&start=0
If you want to customize, you can, but the prices are competitive with a base character here – and are often less than the added extended license fee.
So why not just switch? Because I’ve sunk a lot of time and resources into a perfectly usable asset library and don’t want to start over because I’d prefer to be honest about how I use the assets. I’d rather not use them at all than use them without a license – so that leaves me with a tough choice. Spend money on what I already have again or start over and spend that money on all new assets with no strings attached.

The UE store is specifically intended for game use, so it makes sense to include licensing in the base price. The same is not true of the Daz store.
Because most customers here don't use their content in games and so are not interested at all in paying extra for an interactive licence they have zero use for?
Who said anything about paying extra?
Because the copyright holder gives up additional re-distribution rights and deserves to be compensated for that.
