Decent program to create good hair products?

Am considering creating some hair for daz g8/g3 characters I just wanted to know what is the best or generally recommended modelling program to do this with. Is blender usually used by pro daz hair/character creators? I understand I'm a long ways off a pros abilities but I'd at least like to aquire about the general processes and procedures before thinking about learning.

  • What sort of hair - modelled, modeled strands, strand-based, dForce cloth?

Hmm OK you see I don't even know what the different types represent or are best for lol. Could you give me a brief breakdown of each one you just listed telling of how it would best be used and the reason? if that's ok. Then I'll decide.
  • Maybe it would work out better to try making some hair in D/S with what's already available there and see how you take to those types of hair.

Then there is Hexagon with which you can make modeled strands or cartoon hairs, etc.

Then there is the popular Zbrush with which fiber hairs can be made.

Work with the various hairs you have and see what types you like to work with. And what your computer system can handle.

Theres also DS' own strand based hair editor which I like (although sometimes I think I'm the only one)

Oh I like it too! That's one of the available in D/S items I was referring to. [forgot the term for it when I posted. The other is for dForce hair but I think some of that is done with tools only available to PAs].

Studio has the tools to create decent strand hair; Blender has many tools, as does Hexagon and many other 3D products. It's about finding one you feel comfortable with and that can take time.

Software has the tools, we as users need the skills - much more of a problem I find.

This one has tools specifically for creating classic geometry hair but I have no experience with using these tools myself:

I seem to be the only one, who doesn't like it. ;-)
Polygonal with DForce just looks/works best for me.

Since July 2020, I've been a lover of DS SBH .....Thus far I have created lots of hair for my fav figures but not brave enough to showcase my work in the Daz Gallery laugh lol..

My main concern with SBH basic is that there hasn't been any updates and the best parts of SBH are only available to PA's which kinda sucks, BUT putting that aside I Luv SBH and looking forward for any future updates.

I have the distinct advantage on a lot of folks that I bought garibaldi (which is what the current hair editor is based on) waaaaay back when it came out. Once you've used it for 5 years or so you get pretty good at it. It *definitely* has a learning curve (not helped by limited documentation)

While I don't think I can go into too much detail, suffice it to say I am a PA and still use the basic editor everyone has access to for all my renders

Obviously if you do any animation its a different story - the non-dforceability is in that instance makes it pretty useless. But for stills, and as a massive control freak, I prefer coming everything precisely into place any way

The only updates I'd really love is the ability to see meshes other than the mesh your hair is growing out of so I don't have to guestimate where clothing is and having the hair emit from the mesh resolution in the viewport (this one is probably pretty nasty to code)

oh and back to the original topic I do own this hair tool addon for blender which I mostly got for some of the stuff it has for hair particles in blender, but also has some very useful tools for polygonal hair (uving and baking textures in particular)
