Shadows Only

Hello,
I looked for this topic in the forums, and couldn't find any answers about it.

is there any way to render "shadows only" on DS4 Pro as you can do in poser pro? I'm a noob when it comes to DS4, and still haven't been able to figure it out.

(attached pic shows what I'm trying to accomplish in daz Studio)

You just need to remove all textures and put a white diffuse color

Then add two lights (I tried with distant lights) . One casting shadow and the other without shadows. Intensity > 100%

Finally you can adjust the shadow contrast by playing with the Gamma Value in the render settings (Gamma > 2 seems good)

wow, so if I want to render 5 or more scenes with the same character, I should remove all textures from skin, hair and clothes every time? or have like 2 copies of the character, one with textures, the other without it, and then pose each one separate when i want to render "shadows only"?

If that's the case, that's big deal breaker for me... Poser has this option with just clicking a box, and I have to follow tutorials to do something partially similar in DS4? quite a letdown, TBH.. i was expecting to start using DS4 more and Poser less, but with this new knowledge, I think I'll have to rethink my render strategies...

The picture attached to your first post was created by just clicking on box?
The figure and clothes and hair being white?
    How did you do that?

Or maybe we are talking at crosspurposes here ...
Do you want something in the scene that is not visible, but casts a shadow?
Then my links above are not what you are looking for ...

In this case you have to apply Ubersurface to the figure/hair/Clothes
Select all (shift + click or ctrl + click) in the scenetab and go to the surface tab, selecting all surfaces (shift + click), then go to
Daz studio formats / your content folder / shader preset / omnifreaker / Ubersurface
    and apply
Then set Fantom in the surface tab to on.

...well, you could go through all that hassle... or you could use UberSurface.

UberSurface has all the settings of a regular shader, but with an additional 'Fantom' option. This means the object will appear in raytracing (ie, shadows and reflections) but is invisible to the camera. It should be fine to give the desired effect here.

Edit: didn't scroll down far enough. I was beaten to the punch :)

You just click on the "shadow only" option in poser, and render, then you get the result I showed in my first pic.. it's really that simple over there. I don't want the character to be invisible, but i want all shadows rendered on his face and features, just like in that pic.

I don't mean to start a DS4 Vs. Poser thread, just inquiring how can I accomplish the same in DS4... but the ubersurface lights option seems to be the winner as of now, will definitely look into it.. thanks for the replies!

Poser is not DAZ Studio, Daz Studio is not Poser. Both applications have their pros ond cons. This is definitely a pro for Poser. I often wish that the render settings in DAZ Studio had more options like this...

For me it isn't DS vs. Poser (see my signature) - I really asked how you did it in Poser, I didn't know that option in the render settings. :)
Thanks for telling me about it.

ah, sorry for misinterpreting you then, happy to have helped! ^_^

Will try that ubersurface option soon, and post the results here.
