Advice on paper doll type 3d model project. Probably commercial license needed.
Just looking for advice from anyone with ideas on how best to achieve this or have been through this. I'm working with someone else on a project she is doing.
1: All images will be stills.
2: Face Variants: Oval, Round, Rectangular, Diamond
3: Hair Styles: Long (Straight or Wavy), Bob, Ponytail, Bun, etc
4 Eye Color: Unsure if this is implemented or not because she didn't say anything about it. Otherwise just brown.
5: Torso Types: Hourglass, Rectangular, Plus Size With at least one variant in the middle of each totalling 5.
A: Breast Size: A-D
B: Buttocks Size: Small-Large
6: Skin Tones: White to Black
7: Clothing Choices: OMG
Mind you this will be an ongoing project that I will need to hand off when work picks back up. So I am trying to do this the right way from the start. I figured Genesis 8 character rendering each part/item seperately using .png formats then layering them.
Example:
Bottom Layer: White Oval Long Brunette Hair (still means a render for each head, hair color, tone, combo)
Second Layer: Torso based off shape, tone
Third Layer: Pants Skirt or Legs for dresses (Removing the back so only the front renders)
Fourth Layer: Tops Choices (Removing the back so only the front renders)
Fifth and Final?: Shoes (Removing the back so only the front renders)
My final issue is figuring out a decent pose for arms which may just be the default pose. If her arms are crossed them I have to either render the arms for eah outfit or carfully erase the clothing layer to reveal arms. That or render the arms separately but then I run into the issue of straps vs sleeves. Then make the lighting match for everything with parts hidden.
Finally the licensing issue. I am going to try and keep the model, hair, etc as basic as possible to make this easier for when/if I hand this off. My current plan is to help her get started then hand the reins over to her or someone else once she is up and running. As for the clothing I won't be making the articles of clothing. That will be done by someone else who "Can use the pictures I take to transfer the texture onto the outfits." However I am sure a commercial license is needed for the genesis model and any hair skin variants required.
Attached is my first test. No idea why the body was removed. Yes it is nude but I removed nipples and of course it had no genetalia.

Given you've stated these will be "still images" you won't need a commercial license as any render/still image you create in Daz Studio is free to use for personal/commercial use. Same goes with animated films so to speak. The only time licensing comes into play is when you are distributing any assets from products @ Daz3d. An example of that would be in the event you make a video game and you are packaging 3d models with it that are obtained here.
As long as the thing you are distributing includes only rendered images it would be covered byt the standard license, no need for the interactive license. Something like this would not be allowed, with 3D data included, even under the Interactive License since that explicitly excludes producing 2D renders from the locensed content - if you did want to include 3D data you'd need to contact sales to discuss possibilities
Thank you. I wasn't sure how that would work as usually I just do something here and there for fun and to improve my skills.
What can be done if a 2nd or 3rd person needs the 3D models to continue working on the project, is that they each have D/S on their computers PLUS their own purchased copies of all the required models. [with regards to models licensed from Daz3D, other stores have different licensing arrangements]. That being said, there is quite abit available in the starter sets, plus weekly freebies and of course with membership some great prices during the big sales.
Last night we talked and I am wiping my hands of this. She is now asking why it can't show the front, profile and back images too. Tried explaining that would mean rendering each outfit multiple times with each variable leading to a massive number of images. Also it was revealed that she really wants me to redo the clothing and texture it to match the actual shirts, pants dresses etc but isn't wanting to pay for it. I know she is my wifes family but ffs this is blowing up bigger and bigger with me spending days to do work for her when I want to get paying work. Still the advice is helpful as I may have found a community project and the licensing is good to know.
You could use render doctor to set up cameras around the model and the bulk render them.
