Are these computer specs good enough?

Hi, all. I'm very new to the world of Daz. I'm currently using it on a very bare bones laptop and, naturally, it's very slow. I had my eye on a specific computer and wondered if its specs were powerful enough to run Daz. If not, could anyone suggest a machine that would do the trick, or at least what specs I should be looking out for to have Daz run smoothly and quickly? Thank you in advance!

The specs in question:

  • Thermaltake Versa H21 Mid-Tower

  • Intel i3-10100 3.60GHz 4C/8T

  • Intel Stock CPU Fan

  • B365M/B460 Motherboard + TP-Link PCIe Wifi Adapter Card (depends on processor selection)

  • 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4 2666

  • NVIDIA GTX 1650 4GB GDDR6

  • No M.2 Solid-State Drive

  • Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD

  • Thermaltake Smart White 500W

  • Microsoft Windows 10 64-Bit

  • 4GB on the 1650 is going to be very limiting for Iray renders.

As an example, my 'old system' from 2014-ish had an AMD oct-core FX-8350, 32GM RAM and NVIDIA GTX 650 (w/ 1 GB dedicated RAM). One of my first DS 4.14 test renders at 800x800 took 25 minutes. I treated it as 'a sign' from the PC fairies and bought a new i7 with NVIDIA 2080 (8GB) and the same render takes about 1 minute. I can't comment on how 4GB vs 8GB compares, but everyone seems to say 8GB is the minimum. The real problem at the moment is NVIDIA (?) has allowed most stock to vanish. Best-Buy, New-Egg, Micro-Center - everyone seems to show all mid-to-high end NVIDIA card as 100% out of stock. I eventually ended up buying an ASUS 'gaming' system which I consider over-priced & under-powered just to get the GTX 2080 SUPER which came 'included' & in-stock ready to ship sad

What? Do you call that thing a computer, and NEW?  that's more like a calculator at best from the year 2000.

if you think about a computer that is useful for Daz then look for something with at least 32 GB ram  and at least 8gb video Nvidia video card. maybe you could set away with 16GB if you agree to endure some suffering.

if you are short on money then buy some used machine for cheap and then buy ram and GPU for the rest of the money you have.

don't even think about using a laptop

I would also recommend 1080 ti with 11GB ram  even if it is older and slower than modern RTX cards, but you really need memory more than the speed.

  • These system specs are really too low all around. 4GB on the video card isn't really enough for GPU rendering. An i3 with only cores is going to painfully slow for CPU rendering. And 8GB RAM is not really enough for any kind of complex scenes. The hard disk size will be fine. The power supply will not be powerful enough if you go with a higher end video card. You will probably want 750 to 800 watts. I'd look into getting an AMD CPU instead of an Intel one as you will usually get more bang for your buck with AMD.

Supply chain shortages due to COVID-19 combined with the holiday shopping rush has left a lot of items low on stock, yes. You can order RTX cards on Amazon, but shipping times are currently running 3 to 5 weeks.

Buy a used 1080 ti and 8gb additional ram and you are good to go.

Your 500w psu should be fine. It's 80+ plus certified and has the required pci-e connectors. The total power consumption of a system like yours with a 1080 ti would be around 400w.
