Deleting a scene whilst retaining a character

Another vain hope I imagine, but is there any way in a developed scene to select and 'hold' a character and then delete everything else? Some scenes are so elaborate that it would take ages to point, click and delete every single item individually.

If I could do the above I could then save the developed character with all my add-ons and tweaks to a library of presets for that character for future use.

I've tried the standard Save as a Character Preset function but that only saves shaping and surface property information. Wearable presets only save clothes and hair etc. Nothing seems to save the entire character. So save as a scene seems the only option - but then there's the superfluous stuff that one doesn't want to save.

After playing with Daz on and off for the last year and a half I am now going full throttle, but despite reading endless forum posts and watching endless YouTube tutorials there are so many things I don't know!

Why has no one written a comprehensive Idiot's Guide to Daz Studio with all these useful tips in it?!!

Use Scene Subset.  It will let you save what you want and you can than use that scene subset to add the character to any scene later on without replacing the scene you are working on

One neat trick that can help you with this; if the figure has bits attached (hair, clothes, props held in the hand, etc.) then you can — and probably should — check if they're parented to the figure before you do the Save As Subset. This lets it appear in the Subset Save dialog as one entry, so you can select the figure (or deselect everything else) in one click, without needing to hunt all over your list for all the necessary bits.

  • Ah! Thank you both - just the ticket!

  • As noted, saving the character as a scene subset will save them separately from the rest of the scene.

To do what you originally asked, you could try this (assuming you have all the hair, clothes etc parented to the figure):

    • Click on the character in the Scene tab to select them
    • Right-click on them and choose Select > Select Children, you should now have them and all their gear selected
    • Right-click on the scene tab again, this time choose Select > Invert Selection (or press Ctrl+Shift+I), you now have everything but the character selected.
    • Press Delete to delete it all.

Thanks. That would indeed be useful. But when I tried that the Select Children option does not come up.  Select All, and Select this and that and whatever, but not Select Children.....
