Newbie question about figures/models
Hi guys,
I'm very new to Daz, but learning quite quickly and getting used to the interface etc.
I have a question relating to figures, currently I've just been practing on the Genesis 8 models, however my goal for learning Daz is to eventually use my own character models.
I thought maybe I'd be able to buy/download more creatures or things like objects, or even a skeleton etc (rather than just humans), however I read on a post that one must only really use the Genesis models due to the rigging/posing abilities etc, and that it's unlikely imports from 3D downloadable sites will work as well etc.
To use the shaders on a very specific 3D model, would I need to use/learn Blender to first create my own specific 3D model (whether it's a skeleton/creatures/animal etc) and then import that into Daz, and hopefully then I'd be able to pose it, and use shaders etc? (Or even perhaps posing in Blender first, to then import to Daz, to then use the shaders?)
Sorry, just a bit confused on how others are getting objects/animals/anatomy in use via Daz, there's not really any files from the store that would suit my specific needs, so I'll need to create my own 3D model either way - mostly just hoping to confirm if unique models created in Blender can be used/posed just as well in Daz?
Thanks for your time! Any advice greatly appreciated!

You can certainly model in Blender, import into DS, and rig as a figure - you'd also need to UV map the model. Depending on what you mean by shaders that might work. However, there is a lot of pre-made content that you could use - both morphs for the standard figures and new stand-alone figures. Depending on your resoruces in cash and time and on your existing skill-set it might be worth looking through that first.
You can import you own 3D figures if you wish, you will just need to rig them for movement yourself.
Shaders don't nomrally carry over from one render engine to another very well, if at all, so in terms of surfaces, if you are going to render in Daz Studio, learn about the setup in Daz Studio and dont worry about setting up shaders in Blender first. I would suggest defining your surfaces on the model in blender before you export. I personally find it easier to do that part in the modeler than in Daz Studio.
If you want to learn about rigging mechanical stuff in Daz Studio, I recommend this - https://www.daz3d.com/rigging-vehicles-and-mechs-in-daz-studio
As for figures, this one is older but still useful - https://www.daz3d.com/advanced-rigging-in-daz-studio-4-pro
