I just downloaded and installed Daz Studio 4.15 to test the new G 8.1 and I can't find the place in render settings where I controll if I want to use a HDRI or sun sky or what ever, no such section, no way to rotate the dome, wtf have they done? sorry but I am paniking right now. Please answer me quickly, I can't work if I can't set the hdri, rotate it, I use HDRI's ALL the time. Thank you so much in advance for a quick help w this heart

Edit: I noticed that those options appeared if I load a HDRI that I bought. And as objs in the scene tab like I am going to rotate or scale tonmapping lol, why???? And what do I do if I just want to use the default hdri? how do I get those options then? no tonemapping or rotating on the default hdri? do I have to load a bought HDRI to use the sun sky mode? I would really appreciate some help understanding this, how it is supposed to work, seams really crazy to me.

  • Yeah, it's a dumb change.

Top menu bar... Create -> New Environment Options node

(Environment options is a separate thing in the Scene tab.)

You can also create the node by loading a render settings preset or by switching on Iray preview mode.

Not really sure why they changed it..

  • Thank you so much for the replies, I deleted the environment options that appeared when I loadede the HDRI and tried to find it on the top menu, direcly under Create, I have no such options there, no New Environment Options node there, what could be wrong? I use a workspace layout that I made before, could that be it?

You could try going into "Window" then "Workspace" and "Update and Merge Menus", then that might add the option back.

You could also just load the same HDRI again. You can also create the enviroment node by turning the viewport drawstyle to Iray Preview.

  • Thanks for the replies and help with this! heart I think it is weird that they changed it like this, but as it turns up when I pre render, which I do all the time,  I can live with it.

I've noticed sometimes the environment and tonemapper nodes can't be deleted. Anyone know why this might be?

Anyone know of a way to hide the new nodes so they're not in the way while working with scene objects?

I guess you could make a group and have one less...

Also having trouble getting render defaults reset using the "defaults" button in the Iray render settings tab. Does this not recommended anymore or is something about the new nodes breaking the defaults button?

I looked for default render settings in the content tab, I think that used to be there, but now I can't find it.

The problem with trying to delete the new nodes is that many render options/ settings will go away if they are not there, so I wouldn't recommend it. As for hiding them, I don't know of a way to do that. Sorry.

The change came around the time they added that filiment stuff in, so I assumed the nodes made it easier to add in filiment, or maybe they were required to in order to add it.

I believe it is somewhat related to Filament in that there were now additional things to which some settings, such as envionment and tone mapping, applied.

    I am told:

Eventually settings for Environment, and Simulation (global), will follow in kind... Basically any settings that can be considered to be part of the definition of a scene, and would therefore benefit from all that comes from being a proper node within the scene (e.g., saving/loading, presets, animation (potential), etc). There will continue to be panes that filter what is displayed within them (e.g., Cameras, Lights, Environment, Simulation, Render, etc), but the configuration of these conceptual collections of properties are being promoted to proper members of the scene - such that, if the singleton node that provides access to the properties exists in the scene, their values are used, and if it is not, the defaults for that particular 'engine' are used.
