Lighting sets + HDRIs
I'm so confused! I purchased several HDRIs for skies and lighting, and primarily use Skies of iRadiance. I also purchased BOSS Pro Light Set. Am I supposed to use them in conjunction? I don't understand how I can simultaneously light an outdoor scene with a sky, and have good lighting on the character. Skies of iRadiance does a good job of lighting the scene but produces glassy, unrealistic looking eyes. I tried rotating the dome and that doesn't solve it. BOSS lights things up great but it is in a virtual portrait studio. How does one get the good lighting of BOSS with outdoor skies? I've been poking around at this for over a year and haven't been able to figure it out. (Yes, the headlamp is turned off.)

Photographers have this issue - they use lights, screens, and reflectors to adjust how the lighting is striking the model. You can do the same in Iray, though a light set created for interior use is probably not going to be ideal.
I usually place a warm Point Light above each characters forehead, sometimes a 2nd one in front of their chest.
You can also place recflection maps, I find that it sometimes makes the eyes look more "alive": https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/6056087/#Comment_6056087
This is an ingenious solution. I like it! Thanks
