I want to copy a material (non-glossy) from one item to another

I am the same person who posted a few months ago about trying to dial down the glossiness on all of the surfaces.  It seems that most of the people   using this program simply prefer things to be glossy by default.  I had to go and import old content I made years ago where the glossiness and all of the other glossy-related settings were turned off.  Now I want to apply   these settings to new content .... but even the primitives that I make in Daz 3D    always default to a glossy material.   Is it possible to save the material I've created for my old objects and apply that to new objects?

Ive searched around, but every discussion Ive found either

1) makes use of options that dont seem to exist in the modern DAZ program (e.g. "Copy Material" was once a command in the Edit menu)  or

2) require the use of   Material presets which i cannot access since   I created this content on my own rather than  downloading it through the store.   Some of the tutorials talk about creating a new materials preset, saying there should be a + button, but I  dont see this button and I think it may be because I am working with primitive objects and not   Shaders with materials already loaded in them.

Is there a way that I can take the settings of an existing object and create a new  Materials Preset   that I can then apply to other objects?   Or do I need to always  move the  dials  manually?

Alternatively, is there another way around this  ?    Is there   still a "Copy Materials" command after all?

Thanks,

Soap

In order to copy surface settings they need to be using the same shader.  Once they are you can just Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V.

  • In the Surfaces tab, select a surface with the material you want to copy, right-click, and select "Copy Selected Surface(s)". Then select the new object in the scene, select its surface in the Surfaces tab, right click, and paste.
